To be fair, we called it Tsukuyomi, after the god of the moon Tsukuyomi no Mikoto who angered Ameterasu enough that she refused to share the sky with them. We found out people were just calling it Tsuki when we met westerners who translated it as "the moon." That was all before they found out that other planets in the solar system existed and had moons.

Personally, if Amaterasu wasn't a colossally prissy bitch about everything related to decorum and the Moon wasn't run by deranged, insane rabbits? I'd prefer the old stories.
