Animals can be tamed, sure. I still get the sense it's...a little different from your world. [ They're not always considered such close partners, for one thing, and certainly don't compete in huge tournaments using magic powers! ] The monsters aren't really the tame type. Most of them are just wild, and sometimes even corrupted into being worse than usual.
