After all, where I come from, 'cats' come in a bunch of different species, like Meowth or Skitty. And even Meowth has different forms, depending on where it lives, so they're way more distinct from each other than I've ever heard anyone mention here.
Though even the Pidgey here have their own form. I guess I wouldn't know for sure unless I met one. [He has not met Little John....]
