I bet. [ She laughs a little at the idea, clearly amused. ] I'm sure it'd get a little grating to have somebody, or something, who was happy all the time, even when you weren't feeling so cheery.
[ Maybe it's how Aerith herself can annoy people, though she likes to think that she can rein it in when need be. ]
[ She perks up a little, surprised, at "Aery"...but then breaks out into another bright smile, nodding decisively. ]
Yeah! They'll probably be stale soon if we leave 'em too long, if they aren't already. Might as well!
[ Aerith is also a gremlin, so...birds of a feather eat cake together, right?
She steps over to where the cakes are on display and busies herself getting two pieces cut up and onto plates, humming happily all the while. After, she moves to one of the tables and sets them down, tapping the surface. ]
Dessert is served! [ Comes the sing-song invitation. ]
Even Osomatsu isn't always happy. Cheerful most of the time, but not always. It's... kind of a lot to handle I'd bet. [Even Aerith could rein it in compared to what she was thinking.]
A spirit's usually defined by their emotion. So it's hard to imagine if you aren't one. I haven't ever heard of a spirit of happiness. [She did snicker a little.] You... just see happy most of the time. How do you do it because it seems easy for you.
[ Aerith, on the other hand, looks thrilled at the prospect of their Girl's Night! ]
Just the two of us it is! I think that's a great idea. [ She smiles brightly in response, arms behind her back as she rises to the tips of her boots and back again. ] It's a date!
[ Too bad there's so much gross sink work between now and then... Sigh. ]
Why don't we kick things off in the meantime? Start working on getting to know each other, and all that. [ Aerith considers it for a moment, going back to her scrubbing. ] Hmm... What's your favorite food?
About the same. Doing well, trying to figure everything out. There's a lot of that going around, though, right?
[ They're all in the same boat, after all. She may seem bubbly all the time, but Aerith presents that front on purpose, and often is a bit more mellow or introspective than she seems. ]
All things considered? It could be worse, here. It's nice to have people I know, and to have made so many friends so far.
Well, sure. That's part of being a person, isn't it?
[ People are hard to figure out, usually. Even if you have a bit of a special read on them, as Cole seems to. ]
You just have to tell them as much, that's all. Just say that, if they're not going to be straight with you, that you'll just take them at their word! People usually are a little more open after that. They might be coy at first, but they don't want you to misunderstand their intentions, usually. Unless they're a bad guy, or something.
[ Most people want to be understood, deep down, but can have a hard time admitting it. ]
[ two gremlins just dive into cake of unknown origins... is this where they die? who the heck knows. all leo knows is that it's going to be delicious! unless it's not.
he's moving on over immediately, taking a seat at the table and kicking his feet mildly-- ]
Thanks, thanks! Never thought I'd eat cake in a church, but there's a first time for everything...! See me snack and be jealous, God!
[ is this where he gets smited
anyway, he's leaning forward a little, ]
Did you get the same flavor as me, Aery? We can share if you didn't!
[Tifa's eyes round out with surprise when Aerith poses her with the question, putting her in the hot seat. They're starting that now, huh? Well, in that case...]
Favourite food... hmm.
[She has to think about it, buying herself some time to give Mireille another scritch on the head, but by then, she thinks she already has an answer, and boy is it a little embarrassing.]
I'm gonna have to go with a really good homemade burger.
[It's definitely nothing fancy, but if she were to have one right now, it would bring back a lot of fond memories of home.]
We used to make them sometimes, during our downtime at Seventh Heaven, or after everyone got back from a successful mission. Jessie would help me with the meat, and Biggs'd fire up the grill, while Wedge waited and asked us how long it'd be until they were ready.
Oh, it's not so bad. [ Yes. Yes, it is difficult to be cheerful all the time, in the face of the world's true terrors. ] We're all just...doing what we can do. That's all.
[ She nods at the discussion of spirits, head tilted somewhat with interest. ]
I guess this is just how I learned to deal with everything. [ Aerith says finally, with a light shrug. ] I hope it helps other people, too, and not just me.
She tilts her head, interest piqued, adopting a little, pleased smile.
"Well, if you happen to find anything, I'd love to hear about it. I think we could all benefit from the flowers thriving here!"
If only to brighten the strange world they all inhabit. Otherwise, she'll just have to take care of them here as best she can and hope it'll be sustainable without the sun streaming down...
I don't think anyone here minds you having cake. It's my church, anyway, and what I say goes!
[ There hasn't been a 'god' in this place for a long time, anyway.
Aerith laughs lightly at the question, holding up hers for him to see. It's iced with what appears to be vanilla and features a candied lemon peel on top. ]
[ She smiles at the answer, but it deepens into something warmer when Tifa begins to explain, to talk about the people who made the memory of the food so much better. Aerith nods, understanding, and quietly grateful that the other had felt comfortable sharing a bit more personal like that. ]
That sounds really tasty. With a homemade burger, a drink from the bar, and good company? You can't go wrong!
[ Man. She wishes they could do all that right now... ]
Do you want any sides with that? [ Aerith asks, still grinning even as she tackles some of the last of the grime. ] Fries? Salad?
It's going to help most of them, I think. People who are able to see the silver lining in the middle of this keep them positive. And positive thinking seems to help overall.
'Course not. [ She's trying to keep her smile innocent, but also...it's endearing, the way he's dancing around it. There's a little spark of affection at that, and she raises a hand to tap thoughtfully against her cheek. ] And you're right about that! Should we ask them?
[ Aerith moves over to where the lilies are clustered, leaning in a little with her ear toward them. She nods, as if listening (though these flowers don't 'speak' to her the way they do at home) for a bit before turning back to Cloud with her brows raised. ]
Hmm... They definitely have an opinion. [ She informs him, matter-of-fact. ] Did you hear it from over there, Cloud?
[ ahahaha. there's an amused smile at that, as he lifts up his fork and-- ]
Sure. I can't ignore a command from the Queen of this castle, can I?
[ god, stop. leo's own cake is yellow-y, accented with a fair bit of purple berries inside. blackberries, maybe? biting into it... mm, it's good, and his little hum of approval is definitely proof of that-- ]
It's lemon... Like yours, maybe? [ d'uh ] Pound cake... with blackberries? Yummy, and not stale at all!
[ and also not poisoned, maybe, since he's not keeling over just yet? anyway, he's pushing the plate a little closer to aerith, in case she wants to try it for herself. ]
Honestly? Can't go wrong with a good side salad, either!
[As much as she loves fries, a crisp salad next to a giant burger is one of the finer and simpler things in life. Especially on the days when Midgar would get hot and muggy, it was refreshing, and made her feel like she was making at least one good choice that day.]
A burger, a salad, and a cold beer to wash it all down.
[She's feeling nostalgic now... There's even a slight pull in her chest when she remembers the sounds of their bottles clinking together, toasting to another successful mission.]
[ For some reason, he's surprised at how suddenly everything is happening, like he's unprepared for what's about to happen next. Like he's already at the job interview before he even knew it. They could have just been playing a game up until now, or maybe she's just teasing him after already having figured him out.
To nobody's surprise, he has no clue what the flowers said, nor if she can actually hear them here. ]
[ Rinoa's eyes widen in response to that. Only met them recently? She can't help but wonder if that's weird. As nice as it would be to have someone from home, wouldn't it be weird if it was someone she didn't know that well?
It's not really her place to ask about that though, so she doesn't, instead just offering the other woman another smile. ]
Well, maybe you and I can get to know each other too, yeah? The more friends, the better, you know?
Well, good. We all have to do what we can to hold it together, am I right?
[ Otherwise, it could be easy to succumb to feeling helpless in a place like this. Aerith...is trying as hard as she can to keep others from feeling that way, even if they truly are helpless here. ]
