The Hashihime is In - (OTA for October)

--In which Parsee attempts to turn over a new leaf with mixed results by updating the shrine
Where: Predominately around the Shrine and Bridge, but out and about in a couple prompts.

Option 1) DAMNIT CACTAUR!
Parsee could be found around the region at some point in the company of what looked looked like the severed head of a teddy bear turned into a pin-cushion and a creature with a paintbrush on its tail, colored black. She was quietly and with great annoyance pulling needles out of her normal clothes and her skin as she walked from place to place along the paths, and currently dressed in a hunter green version of those school uniforms they were 'selling' inside of the mountains. She grumbled a lot, but every time she reached a corner, she stopped and set the clothes down before looking over to the painter and nodding.

"Ok, let's start here. Hmmmph, they'd better be grateful someone's finally getting around to this," she murmured and smiled over at the creature as she started to plant down a simple wooden sign, letting one stitch it into place and make sure it was in good shape while the other started to paint on it with their tail. "Good job, ok... uh... arrow that way, and say Bar. Arrow that way, say Mt. Silver." Someone was trying to get signs up. It was probably mostly futile, but new people were showing up.

Option 2) Getting set up. (Shrine/Bridge to the Void)
Parsee and her two companions of the moment were busy as hell. She had some food and water set out for them, and each was currently busily working on something as she'd directed. The rolling head was quietly and busily using its thread to finish fixing up a house out back of the Shrine, near the river. It was finally time to make the thing stable, and it was putting the finishing touches on her little residence. Meanwhile, the 'smeargle' was happily painting a welcome sign and a sign in front of the shrine, the latter of which said 'Prayers - One Pebble.' The welcome sign ended up in front of the shrine.

"Welcome Back. Bar -->" it read, pointing towards the path leading up to the Heavenly Blanc. The Smeargle seemed happy to be painting certainly and she was grateful.

What was Parsee doing? She was beating wood to a pulp in front of a big vat of water, a grim look on her face. If anyone knew such things, it was a very old fashioned way to make paper. Crude, bad paper, but paper nevertheless. As she worked, a water clock 'tonked' beside her and she occasionally glared over at it. "Behave!" she said if it sounded even a half second off. She would get that damned thing to behave one of these days.

Option 3) The Hashihime is In (Bridge-Shrine)
When the work was finally done, Parsee could be found around the shrine from time to time in the month of October. She was dressed in as much an all-white outfit as she could pull off, given that there were no kimono here right now, complete with a woven metal crown and and a couple metal candle holders she'd ut together from scraps. It gave her a bit of an eerie look. When she saw someone approach, she made sure the things were lit and settled herself inside of the shrine.

The sign by the shrine said 'Prayers - 1 Pebble' and there was a pair of little boxes. One had some scraps of crude paper in it and a stencil, while the other was empty, waiting for pebbles. Tifa had suggested this, and once upon a time? People had prayed at a youkai's shrine, so... she could try the practice out. Maybe it would help people? She wasn't sure. She felt a little silly, but hey. Whatever.

Option 4)... (Osomatsu's room at the Apartments)
She was standing there in front of Osomatsu's place at the apartment complex. It didn't really matter if someone had taken it over now. That wasn't the point. She had an unreadable but displeased expression on her face, her arms folded in front of her. A foot tapped and she seemed to be trying to decide something, but unable to quite reach a conclusion on the matter.

"You're probably better off right now, but still... why'd you have to go?" she muttered, fussing with the hem of her skirt. "You're probably not going to be the last either. 2B's gone too..."

Eh? Oh, you're not the only fisher? Just watch those dragon things. They're annoying as hell. I just run the bridge out into the void back that way. It's mine, so might as well keep up the old habits. Youkai have our habits.

[Noct nods - that was his point, honestly.]

Yeah, so far I haven't pulled any up, but I found an oar down on the beach I carry with me just in case.

[He would really like to be able to call up his weapons, but so far he hasn't had any luck.]

"Youkai"? That another name for bridge trolls?

[He's teasing with that, though it's not super obvious on his face but for the mirth in his eyes.]

Hah, oh you're a riot aren't you?

[Admittedly, she did snort out the very briefest of laughs. She was starting to get a little bit of a sense of humor in this place, slowly. It was kind of like pulling teeth with her at times.]

Bridge Princess, Hashihime. It's a kind of youkai, but yeah heh. I guess the reverse works too. Basically just a human word for monster.

[Noct smiles outright in response, though it fades back into something more curious when she goes on.]

So are you actually royalty or is it, like... a position you hold? Though I guess that's kind of the same thing.

[For some reason he's thinking it's something like a religious appointment? Though that could be totally wrong, and he's not really sure how to put into words what he wants to ask.]

I mean, like... is that who you are or is it a job?

Heh, yeah, sorry. A Hashihime is a 'type' of youkai. It's more a classification than it is a role. We're vengeful spirits born out of envy, who came back to repay the person that wronged us, but that was a long long damned time ago. We just stick around at our bridge.

[It kind of is? Mostly because people did worship them, albeit out of fear or a desire for breakup.]

Like most spirits, my job is who I am, and who I am is my job. It becomes kind of intrinsic to who we are. I'm not sure how much we still can change at all, or if it's possible, though folks have suggested maybe here?

Oh! [He gets it, now.] My bad.

And maybe? I don't think this place has much in the way of rules at all yet, so you can probably do anything you want. [A pause.] I mean, other than not being able to do magic.

I... uh actually think it's better to say that this place is figuring out what its rules are. It's not that there are none. It's that it doesn't know what it wants? But, because of that you might be right. I might not be bound.

...

And since I'm feeling honest today? Not sure if that scares the crap out of me or makes me smile? Been what I am a long damned time.

So, to put this in context... I've ben what I am... roughly 1,200 years to be exact. Unchangeable. Unmutable. I am jealousy in flesh, and have been for longer than any nation I've ever heard of, the days kind of blending into each other.

I've never even thought about it. We're uh.... kind of in virgin territory, and I'm feeling it out. Does that make sense?

[Noct blinks at her.] Oh, yeah, definitely. I guess if I'd always done the same thing, I might not have any other ideas either.

[Never mind that he's also never really given much thought to what he would like to do besides be the king - other than fishing all day, that is.]

Exactly. So... in being here? My powers don't work. Nothing seems to work quite right, while this place is figuring itself out and someone made a suggestion. A few did actually. But she was specific.

Why not take other prayers? There's no kami here, and only one goddess and I don't think she's looking for prayers, so... I thought I'd try. See what happens.

I've never actually tried anything else. I don't think I can change 'what' I am, but that doesn't mean it's 'all' I am. Not here.

I mean, it definitely can't hurt to try. [He pauses a beat.] I wonder if it might end up affecting stuff here? If it works, I mean, considering stuff here seems to be, like... parts of stuff from the places where people are from.

[That was a lot of uses of the word "stuff", Noct.]

Well, you never know about it not hurting until you try. But hey, I'm trying to be optimistic these days, so... [shrug? Shrugs were optimistic for her.]

Considering that pigs and chickens are sort of one thing? Stuff definitely gets changed into other stuff. So new stuff might change more stuff into all new stuff, and then we'd be knee deep in stuff to stuff in places.

[She's doing that on purpose, Noctis]

Okay, yeah, that's what I meant. [Shrugs are absolutely optimistic gestures.]

[He gets that, yes, and he snorts.] Okay, now 'stuff' doesn't sound like a word anymore.

[She snickered.]

We have kind of stolen the meaning out of it and just made it kind of stuffed with nonsense, haven't we? Then again, considering this place? That's sort of appropriate in a way.

Honestly, best suggestion I have? Don't worry about it. This place is weird enough without worrying. If this turns out good? Bonus. More likely it won't do much, but it probably won't hurt.

[Noct nods, still looking wryly amused.] Yeah, it is, considering everything's a mess.

So far, so good, yeah. [He'll do what he can to take that advice, but he's still a little worried, considering everything he's been through recently that led to this point.]

Something one of the others suggested is to basically not invite disaster. This place seems to be listening, so I'm trying to be optimistic.

Bit of a work in progress. I'm kind of a natural cynic.

Yeah, so am I. I try to work on it, too, but I mostly leave it up to a friend of mine. He's a lot better at it.

I've met a few around here who are pretty optimistic, so at least we don't have to do it all alone. Who's your friend though? Paint me a little curious about people who have more friends than me.

Not a name I know. so, if they're here I don't think I've run into them quite yet. It's not a huge place though so you can probably find out if they're actually here easily enough.

What're they like?

Uh... he's blond. About my height and build or whatever. Like I said, a lot friendlier to people than me. He's an awesome shot, and he's great with building stuff out of pieces of stuff we picked up. He's awesome with a camera, too.

Yeah, that sounds like the kind of person I'd remember if I saw them around. [Hmmmph] I'll keep an eye out mind you, just in case. It seems like a few of your world are more common, after all. So, you never know if he'll show up here.

Why? This place is weird, don't get me wrong. But it's not really dangerous. It's just strange, lonely and surreal. Since people disappear? Think of it as a strange, odd little vacation while this world figures its shit out?

No reason to worry that much. It's not like it's really saturated with monsters. Usually.
