[At first Zack Fair thought he was maybe walking into some sort of version of the Midgar train stations. All muddled up and confusing and if you take one wrong turn or take the wrong train you're in some other random section of the city entirely... Full of nonsensical advertisements and junk. But this place? It's like walking through some sort of abstract painting. But the train station is interesting to explore even with all the water up to his ankles.

Eventually, he wanders enough that he spots some kid making eyes out a window and he can't help but call out.]

Yo! Kind of a cool place to hang out, isn't it? Except it feels like if you make one wrong turn you might get lost.

(Mhm?

It's not a familiar voice that comes from behind him and that's the main reason why he straightens his back and turns around to meet the newcomer. The smile he has on is a tiny one, it doesn't cease from the interruption at all.

Instead, he jerks his head towards it, as if inviting the other to join and check the view himself.)

Not so different from the real thing in that aspect. (Tokyo is complicated!)

[He takes the invite and walks up to check out the view. He crosses his arms over his chest and gives a low whistle. It's impressive here. It reminds him so much of the city he knows. Except way more colourful.]

The stations I know aren't as fancy, I guess. Do you know a lot about this place?

(Ren doesn't recognize him at all - if he has been to the cafebar, it would most likely be during Blue's shift rather than Ren's own.)

I know that it looks similar enough to Shibuya Station to recognize it. (But he doesn't expect Zack to know what he is talking about at this point. He knows better.)

I'm Ren Amamiya. You are...?

[Nope, he doesn't recognize that station name at all!

Regardless, Zack gives a friendly smile. He was pegged as a newbie right away.]

Zack Fair, new to town. I guess most people know each other around here, huh?

(On top of the fact that there aren't many people, Ren just happens to work at the one place they had to lounge since the beginning. It's easy to distinguish who's new and who isn't when you've made coffee for most of the Void, and those he has yet to know about, he's heard of.)

I work at Heavenly Blanc, it makes it easier.

(He gives the other a smile that is just a friendly.)

Have you been?

[Well that makes things a lot easier. Zack lets out a short and causal laugh and nods.]

Yeah, I know Tifa from back home. And I've met Blue there too. Pretty homey place, huh?

[So he's been into the bar once or twice.]

Huh?

(Oh. Interesting piece of information. Ren's eyebrows quirk, curiosity pushing him to ask more.)

You're from Midgar?

Yeah, sure am.

[Zack gives a short salute.]

I wasn't born there but I spent most of my working career there.

I'm glad you're with your people.

(He is lucky to have people from home here as well, but he knows not everybody has such luck.)

Working as?

[Zack pats his chest. He's actually wearing a SOLDIER uniform that looks an awful lot like the one that Cloud Strife wears.]

As a soldier. But I consider myself a For-Hire Mercenary these days.

[He grins. But then that falters just slightly.]

Guess work might be a bit slow in this place...

(And he did notice that, but there's a hum as a response. Is Cloud like that as well? He should ask him later.)

We can't die.

(Wrong person to bring up murder to, Zack, sorry! Ren will have you as a prime suspect should anyone suddenly drop dead. Congratulations!)

You should consider another line of work.

Whoa, wait a minute. Who said anything about people dying?

[Zack snorts. He waves a hand.]

I meant more along the lines of mercenary work killing monsters that are giving people problems. I'm not an assassin.

[That's too much like Turk territory for him!]

Those don't die either.

(Odd choice of words, then, Zack!! Ren's still asking about you.)

We had an invasion not long ago.

For real? Monsters don't die? What the hell happened?

[Now his curiosity is perked. He wants to know about this if only to protect his friends should it happen again.]

The little robots just decided to attack everything a while back.

(Ren himself doesn't know the details, sorry, Zack. All he knows is that he stood his ground and fought them off Heavenly Blanc. If Zack has good observation skills, he'll see the faint outline of a dagger inside his jacket.)

The world hasn't learned about death yet, it seems.

Damn... That's pretty messed up. I hope everyone got out okay in the end.

[He is still curious about what the hell happened there and how can a world exist without death? ... Then again it makes him think of Sephiroth. The man did say he's been alive a few times over again so the whole no-death thing shouldn't be that farfetched to Zack. And maybe Zack can just forget a certain fact about his own existence.]

I wonder if this world ever will figure something like that out. Kind of morbid to think about. I don't like it.
