004 - Lucid Dreaming

As a final reminder, all characters will fall asleep for the full duration of this event whether you decide to take part or not. You may continue tagging threads that take place before the event, but everyone will fall asleep simultaneously.
Falling Asleep, Waking Up
The shift happens without warning, much like the first time people appeared in the world. Perhaps you remember what you were doing in the last moments before a strange feeling of exhaustion overwhelmed you - or perhaps you remember nothing at all. Whatever it may be, you've appeared somewhere new. A seemingly ordinary train station, if not for the bizarre walls of flesh blocking the only exits. The only path forward is down into the pulsating depths, a humid breeze pushing at your back.
There may be others here with you, or you may be alone. Could there be more people trapped in this strange place? You won't find them just by standing around.
Nightmares
The screeching of a distant train will echo through the tunnels on occasion, shadows flicking through the translucent flesh of the walls. Sometimes, however, instead of fading away the noise will only grow louder, closer, until it sounds like the train should be upon you. It never appears, but something else always will.
The train is a siren call for nightmares, and you're unfortunate enough to be their victim. The shadows turn alive, twisting and growing as they rise up from the ground and begin to transform. What form they take varies, but the shadows of the mind know the true fears of those who walk among them. Are you prepared to face the darkness?
Volcanic Panic
The shadows congeal at the edges of the floor, and soon after a hot orange glow begins to fill the room - molten lava is pooling in from the other end of the tunnel. It rolls slowly forward, devouring everything it touches with an unquenchable searing hunger, leaving behind only the charred bones of its victims... although, strangely, the tunnels themselves appear to be completely unharmed.
Outrunning the flow of lava shouldn't be a problem, but there seems to be no end to it. How long can you run from something that never stops? Or worse, what happens if you find yourself surrounded? You'll need to find a way to higher ground before that happens.
A Radiant Plague
The shadows rise up into familiar shapes, and at first glance it'd be easy to mistake them for people. They may even share the faces and voices of people you know, stumbling towards you with wide, open arms... and empty, glowing eyes filled with an orange light. Something smells sickly sweet, and it's only once they're close enough to grab you that they begin to attack.
These are not your friends, and they'll do whatever it takes to make you one of them instead. Unfortunately, it's not an experience you'll be able to survive. Your only hope is to fight back before the plague can take hold, lest you become another mindless husk that knows only to further spread the infection.
Trust No One, Not Even Yourself
The shadows stretch and fill the air, choking everything in a thick blanket of darkness... before dispersing just as quickly as they'd appeared. A few moments pass and nothing else seems to be happening. You must've gotten lucky this time!
... Or did you?
Surely it can't be that simple. Nothing else here has been, so something must have happened just now. It's only you and the person you're currently traveling with... but are you sure that's really them right now? How do you know they haven't been possessed by another nightmare, waiting until you let your guard down to stab you in the back? Should you interrogate them to be sure, or start with restraining them and ask questions later? Wouldn't it be better to just kill them before things get out of hand? The sooner you strike, the safer you'll be when their true form emerges.
Yes, that must be the real explanation. It has to be them that's been possessed by a nightmare. What else could it be?
Joker’s Wild
There’s no limit to what form the shadows can take. The world may have its own perception of fear, but your nightmares are something only you could understand. What darkness lurks in the depths of your heart?

Noctis Lucis Caelum } OTA
[Noct doesn't seem that surprised to be waking up somewhere weird - considering he's still not sure this isn't all just some kind of dream, the fact that it's turned into a nightmare really isn't that odd. It's when he steps forward - and suddenly warps that the surprise turns into excitement as he calls up his carousel of weapons, bringing his sword to hand. He dismisses it a moment later as he starts forward, heading deeper into this new kind of hell. Now that he has his sword back, he needs to find Prompto, to make sure he can get his guns back to him - and see what else he can do to help people as he goes.]
II. Nightmare: A Stitch in Time
[The shadows recede, and Noct looks around warily - and then draws his sword from nowhere, pointing it at either the closest person or thin air.]
You.
[The expression on his face is one no one here has seen, yet. He's furious, eyes dark, jaw clenching. He's no longer seeing whatever's real, here, but instead someone who's made his life hell for months, who was the instrument of his father's death, who almost made him kill Prompto, who killed Luna, who killed Ravus, who stood by and laughed as the Crystal drew Noct in. Now that he's here, that Noct has his sword in hand, he's not going to hesitate.]
III. Nightmare: Holding Back the Dark
[The shadows recede - and the daemons swarm. Noct draws his sword, pushing them back - but they keep coming. He darts around the room in flashes of blue light, dodging some of the attacks and countering others, pushing back the gnashing teeth and swiping claws.]
[Another swarm gathers, and he throws a dagger and warps after it - and then turns to throw a flask that explodes in a shower of ice, leaving the daemons frozen in its wake. Noct takes the moment to catch his breath - and then calls up his sword again as the few stronger ones begin to break free of the ice.]
[He hasn't gone all out, yet, keeping that in his backpocket in case anything bigger decides to show its face, but he's definitely making it obvious now what kind of fighter he is.]
IV. Exploration
[When Noct manages to avoid the nightmares, he makes his way deeper into the tunnels. He jumps in to help where he can, resting occasionally. He has energy drinks that will help with injuries and a variety of weapons he can call up as long as you promise to give them back later. He's used to these sorts of places, considering their hunts for the Royal Arms, the upgrades to the Regalia, and the assorted jobs they picked up.]
[The flesh thing is a little horrifying, but hey. He's coping.]
V. Wildcard
[You name it, I'll play it!]
ii
What about me?
[he hasn't done shit to you, kiddo]
no subject
[He hasn't thought too much about the fact that Ardyn might be involved with this, considering the Crystal - but now that he's thinking about it, now that the man is standing in front of him, well. It seems obvious.]
no subject
[a beat]
I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
no subject
[His voice is a little desperate, now.]
You lured us there. You used Prompto. You killed Luna. You... you...
[Noct sucks in a breath and adjusts his grip on the sword, preparing to swing.]
no subject
[and when that seasick feeling passes, he and Noct have switched positions. Noct is about to stab a wall and Damien's standing where he started, facing him, frowning]
I don't know who you think I am ... [but it's not whoever]
no subject
How did you...
[That's not something Ardyn did before, but it also wouldn't surprise him if it's something he could do, considering all the other reality warping shit he pulled.]
[The fact that Ardyn hasn't made a move toward him brings him up short, though, and he frowns back at him. Now he's remembering what else happened, how Ardyn made him think Prompto was Ardyn and... Now, his expression is more hesitant, less full of rage and a little more worried.]
You... who are you if you're not him?

[when he first got here and all]

[or think he is. he's not sure Noct can really see him any more than he could a second ago, even with the clarification. which probably explains why he's not about to lower his phone, just yet]

Your Majesty*
[ The curious sounds of Noctis warping draw her more than the enemies, and though she very well means to offer aide, she's at first enthralled by the display of power and magic. It practically saturates the air and there's a moment wherein Melinoë closes her eyes to breathe it in, jaw no longer hanging in awe, lips instead smiling contently.
The cracking of ice draws the Goddess out of the pulsating shadows, and in the brief moments that they're allowed a few words, she gushes - ]
That was utterly gorgeous, sua Maestà.
no subject
Melinoe?
[She looks.... Different, but he knows her voice.]
no subject
[ It dawns on her that she slipped into Italian, the native tongue of her mortal shell, and she simpers before responding. It's an eerie sounding thing, like a stringed instrument being scratched instead of properly played. ]
Yes, Noctis. It seems your friends are melting; if I may?
[ Claws of bone white and space-void black raise up, a silent self invitation to summon assistance. ]
no subject
Oh, yeah, go ahead.
[It'll be nice to have some help. He'll ask some questions once they're not under attack.]
no subject
[ Smiling cruelly, she mutters thanks in ancient Greek before calling forth an army of wraiths and poltergeists that begin to lay waste to the things not being tended to by the king. There's a palpable chill to the air with their added presence, and on more than on occasion, the Goddess herself attacks, though by no means no visible to Noct other than the fiends howls and shakes, as Mel cracks their minds. ]
no subject
[He looks back to her as the last drops.] Whoa.
no subject
We make a rather fine pair, your highness. Were you injured?
no subject
I'd, uh... ask if you're okay, but.
[He's assuming she is because that was crazy.]
no subject
Whatever minor scratches the ghosts obtained were hardly felt over the adrenaline; so yes, I am well, thank you.
[ Melnoë then releases her haunting horde, all but one, whom hovers above and behind her Goddess. ]
How many of them have you encountered?

[Unfortunately, just knowing he's seeing an illusion will only do so much to help him dispel it. Would Noctis even have been able to see him at all, if not for what he thinks he's seeing?]
[At the very least, he certainly doesn't carry himself with the easy confidence that Ardyn does.]
I'm not him, Noctis. It's this place- it makes you see things that hurt you.
[Maybe the fact that he knows what he's thinking isn't going to help him seem trustworthy here, but Cole's not exactly big on being subtle about what he can do.]
no subject
If you're not... who are you?
[He knows it's not Prompto - his friend wouldn't use his full first name - but it's still hard to tell who he's looking at with the illusion in front of him.]
no subject
I'm Cole. You don't know me. But I want to help.
[He's not sure how he can make Noctis not see what this place is making him see, but at the least he can assure him he's not here to hurt him.]
no subject
[He frowns, trying to remember - and then eventually shakes his head.]
I don't think I saw you before.
[Or, well, it's possible he did, but Cole did say they didn't know each other.]
But you're not...
[Not Ardyn.]
/arrives late without coffee
He doesn't see Noctis until he almost trips over him, and it's a good thing he has good trigger discipline, because he yelps and points the gun at Noctis next.]
Dude! Dude...gimme a heads up next time!
/shares her frappuccino
I've been looking everywhere for you.
