What: hi can i get a cake with "sorry about your comatose boyfriend" on it?
Where: Merlaut Apartments Room 302
When: Afternoon(??) of the day after the nightmare event
Content Warnings: Possibly mentions of suicide and death, but mostly just fluff. This is No Sad November ok.
The first thing Add did after waking up was check on Leo. The situation was... marginally better. Izumi was breathing, and he wasn't laying broken at the bottom of a fleshy pit, so that was an improvement—but he wasn't waking up, either. There was no certainty he would wake up. All they could do for now was wait.
There was no longer a need for him to act as Leo's bodyguard, so he gave the boys some space. Fresh air was a nice change of pace after weeks of dank, slimy subway tunnels. Grass and dirt under his feet, normally something he'd be mildly annoyed about, was now something so wonderful he could almost bend down and kiss it. Add meandered for awhile before heading to the church, taking in the sweet aromas and browsing the desserts. Perhaps it wouldn't be enough to make him forget about the traumatic nightmare he just went through, but he could at least try to drown his sorrows in cake. Cake makes everything better.
Leo is still on his mind, though, as he picks out something layered with a sickening amount of chocolate and a couple decorative lilies. Maybe... Leo would appreciate this? But it's kind of embarrassing to think about, especially if Leo doesn't want or like this kind of cake... but he should still check up on him again to make sure everything is okay, right? And maybe Add got a cake for himself, but couldn't finish it... so he just happened to be nearby, and Leo could have the rest if he wants? Or something??
This is the master plan Add formulates in his mind as he helps himself to a slice—which is, of course, also part of his master plan, because who would believe Add bought the cake for himself if he didn't have a piece of it first??? Obviously he needs to eat the cake. This is also important research into whether it's a cake worth gifting or not (it is, though he may have sampled another one as well, just to be sure). It's a perfect plan and no one could ever possibly doubt that Add got this cake for himself and purely on a whim decided to give it to someone else. Yeah.
Anyway, he stops outside Leo's apartment and gives the door a sharp knock, trying to sound casual.
"Hey, Leo, I'm coming in." Because Add assumes he's still by Izumi's side and probably won't want to move... although, isn't it a bit noisier than expected in there?

... which is why leo pauses with the sound of add's voice and izumi's announcement. the gratitude's a little easier to feel now that it's not tainted by a mess of whole other things -- gratitude for add's support, that is. he... didn't quite have a chance to properly express that to add. he should do that.
for now, though, he's just helping with the ingredients for lunch. and by helping i mean he's just eating them. he's eating them. but he'll stop for now. considering the above, add's someone he should greet at the door. he has like one (1) whole manners, amazing. ]
Hey... I'm sticking around for a while. [ buh. to izumi first, obviously. earnestly. and then to add, with a fond smile much like the ones he offered before this whole mess: ] Welcome back, Dee-deeeeewoah, what the heck is that?
[ ... a smile that's forming pretty quickly into blank blinks at what's in add's hands, because leo doesn't expect that.
is that a cake.......?? also way to just casually say "welcome back" like this is add's apartment too, leo. flawlessly explaining things as always. ]

It's gonna take him a minute to process what the hell is going on here, so sorry if he's just staring in blank confusion at both of them like they've each grown an extra head. Until Leo asks about the cake, anyway. Still bewildered, he automatically sputters out the practised excuse:]
W-well, I got it for myself, but I couldn't finish it and I was passing by anyway, s-so...
[this sounds... so much stupider than it did in his head. especially now that it feels more like he's intruding thanks to the shocking plot twist that Izumi is fine, actually, and his whole elaborate scheme to cheer Leo up was pointless. Awkward!!
but anyway, speaking of plot twists—] Forget about that, when the hell did you decide to get up?! [yeah he's talking to YOU Izumi, don't think you're getting off the hook that easily] You've got some damn nerve acting like everything's just fine! Do you have any idea how— how much trouble you've caused?!
[he's yelling like he's genuinely pissed, but this is how he shows he cares, really.]

Anyway, shut up about the nightmare. You're lucky you're in time for lunch.
[ didn't you notice he's wearing an apron right now? now you do. izumi then retreats into the kitchen-y part of their apartment, smacking leo's hands away from the ingredients for what seems to be onigiri. there's only so much food you can make without a portable fire source, after all. ]

it's fortunate add made it past the door guard (and that izumi's sharp enough to clue in) with no further prompting from leo, because he's sure not about to get into any specifics about that time, okay. at least, not right now. that comment went in one ear and out the other.
leo makes his way into the apartment following behind izumi. with his hands slapped away from sampling the food and add's entrance, his short attention span has now lost interest in helping.
classic. sooo, he'll busy himself with getting add settled. step one: when he's sure izumi's not looking and add is, leo puts a finger up to his lips with a careful smile. it feels terrible to do that kind of thing behind sena's back, but. you know. it's a reminder of their secret. of what to say and what not to say.

This was supposed to be a quick check-in, but now it sounds like he's being invited to lunch? Add sighs, hesitating before following in after Leo.]
Like I said, I just happened to be passing by. I wasn't trying to impose... [though it feels like he'll get more protests if he tries to leave now... he may have already resigned himself to his fate. not that it's an unpleasant one, at least.
The mess is kind of irritating, but it's Leo, so he's not surprised. He just puts the cake down so he can have two free arms again.
and now he can....... stand awkwardly in the middle of the room. should he offer to help?? but leo isn't helping so maybe that would be rude? he has no idea, he's not good at these things.]

[ just. rolls his eyes. be thankful that izumi even let you in? and is going to feed you, potentially? because leo isn't lying when he said that his food is the best. now if only he can figure out how to get a fire going... he found a fireproof pot that he can use as a makeshift stove for now, but he has no idea how to start a fire with only two rocks, rip.
he'll get back to it in a bit. for now he pulls away to set down on the table a plate full of riceballs with flavors that izumi had to come up on the fly while taking what he can get from Wall Market. so... mostly salmon and tuna. not the best, but at least they're edible. ]
And what are you standing around for? [ narrows his eyes at add ] If you don't know how to sit on the floor, Leo-kun can teach you how. Probably.
[ guy can't even sit still so uh. good luck. ]
Anyway, I'll try to get a little fire going so that I can cook more. Jeez, why can't they just give us a working stove...
[ grumbles as he goes back to his work station. he doesn't complain for long though; cooking is one of the little ways he can think of to destress from All That, after all. leo also tends to not eat whenever he's too distracted or depressed, so it really is up to izumi to keep them alive. ]

[ if stalking people from a distance in the wilderness and not dying counts as roughing it up? but he also saved the world and stuff, so maybe that means fire making is a skill in there somewhere ] I'm useless at that stuff, so...

He's steaming with "anger", but he forces himself to sit down, if only to stop himself from saying anything else stupid or embarrassing. These two idiots... they really are being too kind. But between that kindness and his own nostalgia, it's all but impossible to turn them down. This is hardly the first time he's been dragged into joining a group meal. It's not like he really wants to say no, anyway...
It's also not the first time he's been asked to help with a meal, and thankfully, he actually kinda knows what the hell he's doing. He's maybe not as good of a cook as Izumi, but camping did become an unfortunate necessity once he started stalking a bunch of camp-happy adventurers... he barely gets to sit for a minute before he sighs, standing back up again.]
If you're going to struggle with something that simple... tch, fine, just step aside and let me take care of this.
[Physics in this world have also been bizarrely simplified, so he literally just needs to bang two rocks together until something catches on fire (preferably the thing they want to be on fire, but we'll leave the "add and izumi accidentally burn down the apartment building trying to cook" AU for another day). If Izumi has the rocks, he'll do just that—boom, the miracle of fire, no flint necessary!]
Something like this would be even simpler with my Dynamos, but since we're in a situation where there's no telling how long it'll be before technology is usable, you should at least learn the basics on your own.

izumi can't stay irritated for too long, though. he steps aside as add sets the assorted papers in the fireproof jar on fire, and he fans the flames before putting the skewers on it like a makeshift mini-grill. ]
We can get electricity but in short bursts, like during thunderstorms? We don't even know when it'll come by, so I guess I'm gonna have to start learning how to rough it too... [ a sigh, before he turns to face add. ] So you've camped before? I thought your kind would've be able to survive the wilderness. Feel free to take Leo-kun out for one when you're up for it, then.

The fire is taken care of and Izumi seems to have the rest under control, so Add sits himself back down before he starts getting teased again. It doesn't look like Leo's about to stop eating any time soon, so he might as well try one of these snacks before they're all gone. He eyes the riceball suspiciously before taking a bite.]
... Mm. Guess it's not bad. [that's the closest thing to a compliment Izumi is getting sorry not sorry] What is this thing, anyway?

anyway, izumi comes back to the table again, this time serving up a plate of chicken skewers. ]
Onigiri. It has salmon and tuna filling, but you can pretty much put anything into it. I take it you never had Japanese cuisine before?
[ in that case, izumi's here to educate. he still has something cooking in a pot so he's tucking in for the meantime to help himself to some chicken. ]
