Merlaut Apartments (Apt 105)

[Considering how much time Prompto spent at Noct's apartment, the fact that they're sharing again now probably shouldn't be a surprise. Noct wasn't about to let Prompto go anywhere else, anyway, when he has plenty of room in the apartment.]

[He's still managing to keep it mostly clean, too - Ignis would be proud - though it doesn't really hurt anything that he mostly eats at the various food stands in Wall Market or at the cafe.]

[Noct is lounging, now, the light around his apartment dimmer than a lot of the surrounding building, as he naps. Sorry to anybody around who might be trying to get some work done.]

We need an arcade.

[He'll announce this to anyone around him as he peers at one of the empty stalls or stores. It feels like at least one of the places needs one considering they're both the closest thing to a mall that the place has. The fact that technology is actually working a little now makes it even more of a priority in his mind.]

You think if we all wish really hard one'll show up?

[While he's in Wall Market, he'll absolutely be picking up something to eat, too, so feel free to join him for some barbecue or other snack shaped things.]

Around

[Noct's chocobo-potato has deigned to give him rides, and they're out wandering the train tracks today. Sometimes they're moving at a slow and steady pace, other times you might see them race by in a blur. He'll absolutely call out an apology if they get too close to anyone at that higher speed - though really, it's your own fault for not paying attention.]

[He's also set on catching one of the chicken nugs, too, now that he's been clued into the fact that the Pokeballs are working. So far, they all seem a lot more interested in chasing the ball around than letting him catch them with it, but hey. It's not like he has anything more important to do right now, and sometimes, he just ends up under a tree near the cafe, feeding them pieces of bread.]

[ On the list of things that everybody needs here, Cloud wouldn't put an arcade machine on it, but he could be wrong about that.. ]

What kinda world do you come from where you can get anything you wish for?

[Noct looks over at Cloud - and then shakes his head.]

Oh, no, I meant around here. I mean, stuff keeps just randomly appearing, maybe we can influence it or something.

[He huffs out a breath.]

Though actually being able to wish for stuff would be nice.

[Though yeah, an arcade would definitely have not been top of his list back home.]

Wishing for things is something a kid would do. When I want something, I work for it.

[ He's trying to sound a little too cool here (like a kid). ]

Having a form of transport would be nice, though. [ If he'd want anything, it would be something like that. ]

[Noct just looks unamused back at him. Six, you sound like Cid, Cloud.]

If you find somewhere selling arcade machines, let me know and I'll see what errands I can run for them.

[He pauses a beat.] I mean, you can always ride the chocobo-potato things if you get them to like you first. Or maybe the trains will start actually working.

You... know about chocobos?

[ It's a surprise to hear a stranger here bring them up, as Cloud has believed so far that those big birds are exclusive to his own world. Could somebody have told him about chocobos perhaps? ]

[Noct nods, expression lightening a little.] Yeah, we have them at home.

You, uh... you're from the same place as Aerith and Tifa, right?

Yeah... among others.

[ So he's already acquainted with Aerith and Tifa... Cloud has to wonder if they had already discussed this. ]

Chocobos are where I come from, too, so... [ Doesn't that mean they're from the same world?! ] --where exactly is "home" for you?

[They have a little, yeah, considering Noct got some of Tifa's memories when they were all swapping them around.]

The planet is Eos, my country's Lucis, and then the capitol is Insomnia.

What about you?

[He knows Cloud's planet's name, but he's curious where Cloud's from within it.]

Planet?

[ He wasn't expecting that confirmation, but it makes sense that he never heard about this other country before. ]

I'm... uh, from Nibelheim. Doubt you know it.

[ Not to be confused with Niflheim. Those guys suck! ]

[Noct huffs an amused breath.] So yeah, like Tifa. [A beat.] The guys my country's fighting back home are Niflheim, but yeah, no.

[so, let's pretend that the conversation that Noct and Ignis had on the TDM has already happened here, for the sake of not repeating ourselves, and that Ignis wandered off, at some point, to take in the Void. he catches up with Noct later, then, when he's feeding the chicken nugs, and -- ]

[ -- and he arches his eyebrows, a little put off by them] Should I ask what those are, exactly? [they have hands for feet. what.]

[Noct looks up at Ignis - and then laughs a little at his reaction, breaking off another piece of bread and throwing it to them.]

I don't think anyone really knows. A lot of the animals and... everything, here, are kind of bits and pieces of things from various places? Like those big feathery potato looking things? I think they're at least partly chocobos.

So I'd gathered, from the crest. [he waves a hand over his own currently-flat hair, to indicated the feathers the chocobo-potatoes have on their heads] Those, however, are something else entirely.

[he's really hung up on this]

[He nods.] They make the right noise and race each other and all that, too.

[He looks back to the chicken nugs, amused.] These guys are really throwing you off, Specs. Is it the feet, or...?

It's most definitely the feet. [a beat] Or the hands I suppose. [he glances back to the chicken nugs, too, before:] It as if whoever's behind all this didn't quite know what a chicken actually looked like.

I think that's how a lot of the stuff here is. Like... it's picking up stuff from us, but it's just kinda picking up our memories of it? So stuff ends up looking really weird or kinda half done or just... weird stuff mashed together. [He pauses.] Like the chocobo-potato things.

[Ignis hums, taking a moment to consider that]

I'm surprised we haven't seen anything more dangerous, in that case. [sure, there are those things that look like they've been crossed with cactuars, but they're not inherently aggressive. then again, maybe he just hasn't seen the dangerous things, yet. he hasn't been here too long, after all]

Oh, there are definitely some of them around. I tried ocean fishing and then decided it would better if I stuck to the rivers. The things there are less likely to try and eat my face.

Dare I ask?

[what's in the ocean that he should be avoiding, Noct?]

Really huge dragon fish things. [There's a hand gesture to go with that, a la "the fish was that big".] I was actually considering trying to catch one until Legion demonstrated what a really terrible idea it would be. And I mean more terrible than the gar.

Ah. [yeah, okay, that would qualify as more dangerous, if only by virtue of the potential for drowning] Suppose I'll avoid taking a dip in the ocean, then.

[a beat]

Lucky for us, there seems to be plenty to do on the beach, elsewise. [like -- shppping? ish? he's noticed the sorts of things that have been washing up on the beach, at least. or like trying to figure a way out of here, because shit was getting real, back home]

[It had been a long time since Kaiba had spoken to the other, but surprisingly the guy managed to say something they both could agree on]

If we ever get one, sorry to inform you.. [Not sounding one bit sorry] .. but don't go setting your sights on the top slot on the leaderboards. [Although it was competitive in it's delivery and nature, he also seemed pleased with the idea]

Heh- I think it has less to do with wishing and more to do with eavesdropping.

[Noct looks over at Kaiba a little warily - their last conversation didn't go entirely great - but then just smirks.] That sounds like a challenge. [If they do ever get arcade machines, he'll definitely take you up on that.]

You think? [A beat.] That might actually be creepier, though, if somebody's controlling everything and... spying on us.

[It was mercifully brief. ~~It's all about perspective~~] Then it sounds exactly like what it is. [Seeing no point in being ambiguous about it. He was itching for a real challenge. This guy might not be able to provide it but he might be useful for some practice]

[Shrugging to that question] Potentially. There have been some concepts that appeared only after conversations were shared about the subject.

I mean- what else could it be?

If we ever get that arcade, I'll see you on the high score list, then.

[He pauses - and then shrugs.]

I think that's what everyone is still trying to figure out. I mean, something brought us here, and if it's not a dream or something...

[There are more options than he even knows how to put into words.]

You certainly will.

[On all the machines, if he has it his way, fingers almost twitching in anticipation already]

It's definitely not a dream. [Turning his nose up at the suggestion.] It's too elaborate and extensive. [Someone would have to be in a coma to invent something like this in their subconscious] Some-thing? So you're thinking it might not be a person or organization with way too much time on their hands with some yet unspoken vendetta?

[... because he totally thinks it's a person or organization with a personal agenda out to destroy them.]

Go on, I'm listening? What else have you considered?

[Noct nods.] Maybe. Or... we have... they're basically gods, but they could definitely do something like this, considering one of them can make it snow whenever she wants and another makes thunderstorms and that kinda thing.

[He shrugs.] Otherwise, I dunno. There was a series of movies back home - The Simulation or something like that - where everybody was basically in a big video game. Something like that?

[There was no holding back the exasperated huff that followed] What is with everyone and this nonsense about gods? Just because a couple of people were able to exhibit a phenomenon you couldn't explain doesn't mean they were deities. [Good luck convincing him otherwise] There has to be a reason behind it, and you can bet they would do everything in their power to prevent you from figuring out their secrets.

[Then next thing that followed literally stunned Kaiba into silence for a few moments. Sure it was rooted in the least credible source, a movie, but it was in line with his own thinking]

A virtual world. That's what it's called where I'm from. I should know, I named it myself when I created a system just like it. It's the only thing that would account for all the inconsistencies and updates. The coding is being altered as time progresses.

[Noct just linefaces at him.]

I mean, my entire family can do magic and they're way above anything we can do, and I have literally met all of them.

[And been babysat by one, but that's beside the point. He's also not really looking to argue with him this time. He knows who the Six are and what they can do, and calling them "gods" is the closest thing he can think of.]

[Anyway, though, he doesn't really want to argue right now, especially when Kaiba goes on.]

You mean it's actually a thing for you? That's... kinda scary.

I don't know about wishing.

(Ren shrugs, swallowing a piece of meat happily and washing it down with a a gulp of grape soda.)

It seems to like the Japan I am from. It's possible.

(There's a suspicion within Ren that the more people from a place, the more things from that place pop. He's in a group of four and surprisingly, the Void keeps providing them with pieces of home. Even the less than pleasant ones.)

Yeah, it seems like a lot of stuff is from Japan, and a lot of stuff is from Aerith, Cloud, and Tifa's world. [He pauses a beat.] Which, I mean, some of that is from mine, too, weirdly, but.

[He's still a little thrown by the fact that they have chocobos and the Six, too.]

Maybe not wishing, but maybe just... putting out there that we'd like some more entertainment?

[He has no idea.]

(Ren pauses a little, almost like Noct has dropped a bomb. Ren may have loosened the grip he had on trying to understand the environment, but this was just too interesting for him to ignore.)

How so?

You mean how is some of it from mine? [He's not sure what part of that threw Ren.] Yeah, I don't really know either? I just know that we both have chocobos, and there are... they're kind of like gods?

You know how I mentioned summons back in... Mementos or whatever you guys called it? And I think I told you about how I can call on some of the Six to help when stuff gets weird, but, uh... Aerith and Tifa both knew most of their names, too.

... This is interesting.

(It's the first time he has heard about two worlds that are the same but aren't at the same time, so he just has his eyes goggled as he tries to put the information together.)

How does your summons work?

[She was leaning against the wall of a building, loitering because she was inherently something of a bum deep underneath the surface of her life. Glancing up when addressed, she shrugged. Honestly? She'd just finally found out that video games were a thing recently, so...]

You know, if you wish it hard enough and shout at the void? It might show up eventually. You never know.

That's my point. [He pauses a beat.] Though I think people might look at me funny if I just ran around yelling randomly.

Well, I don't know that it's actually a matter of yelling or speaking loudly. It's just whether or not this world notices what it is you're focusing on. It's... weird. We don't understand it clearly.

Definitely not. [If there's one thing he definitely knows about this place, it's that no one has any real idea what's going on.] It would be nice if we could at least figure that out - but considering I don't even think this place knows what it's doing...

[Considering the stores literally only selling school uniforms and the nonsensical job listings and so on...]

Oooh, someone's catching on I see. [She snickered] A few of them think it's more conscious and planning something out, but I think you're right. It doesn't know what it's doing at all. It's like a baby god, taking its first steps creating a world. Doing what feels right.

So I think it's ... we're all figuring out something.

[Noct just linefaces back at her - but then nods.]

I definitely agree with you. If it had any idea what was going on, chickens would look more like chickens and not... [Whatever they are, with the hands for feet and so on.]

Yeah, those things are just... weird. But I mean the eggs fry up like normal so there's that? Not that ... I mean, not that you really want to think about what you're eating.

there's way too much weird here at times.

[Noct looks amused but nods.] Yeah, definitely trying not to think about that considering how much barbecue I've eaten.

Let's... hah. yeah, let's not try and pay too much attention to it. I've eaten at the barbecue place too. [She didn't care that much, but better not to think about it in general. meat was Meat.] This place has a lot of "You don't want to know how the sushi is made" moments.

[Noct pulls a face and reaches up to scratch at the back of his neck.] Yeah, it really does. I think I'm just going to assume it's all 'magic' like everything else until someone proves it otherwise.

When you don't know what the hell is going on, "Magic" is just as good as "It's Science." Might as well just use that for the rest until you actually figure something out.

Don't toss any fishes in the hot tub though. Doubt you'd like what you find out.

[Noct frowns, tilting his head again.] Well now I'm gonna have to try it.

[He can't just not with a lead-in like that.]

Oh man I have to remember how to manipulate you, dude. You know, for the even more fun stuff. [She snickered] When you do it, pay attention before you get teleported out. I wanna know if you see anything different than me.
