[ In response to his words, Yoshizawa stiffens up, the expression on her face immediately turning from something friendly and kind to one a lot more guarded, hesitant. With just those eight words, the newcomer's store has gone from sounding like something innocent and missed to sounding sinister. In her experience, a granted wish isn't necessarily a good thing.
Her fingers continue to stroke over the little fox's head, appreciating the guidance, but it's an action run almost on instinct now as she looks at the man sitting in front of her, a small frown on her face. ]
Why wouldn't it be? (it makes sense, doesn't it? why should another person pay the price for a wish they had nothing to do with?) You're the one getting the wish granted.
My age and my lack of memories were payment, for instance. It's not always something physical.
(sometimes, it isn't. it's not his job to weigh whether the wish is wrong or right, good or bad. such concepts just don't exist, they're solely based on a person's own perspective. his job is to help those who need it, receive payment to keep the store alive and wait for her to return.
he can tell that she immediately tensed up, though. he too wasn't too keen on that concept before he realized that mostly, they did more good than harm.)
Any wish as long as I can grant it, and the wish can be paid for with something of equal value.
So... ok. You're away from home and the ones you love. That's bad. But this place itself isn't actually bad. It's weird, and it's annoying when it figures things out like "Ok, you're supposed to eat, try eating this!" But it's not like we're in a monsterous battle or the like.
[Not that he’s hopeful they’d work or anything, but...hell, maybe he’s just making conversation. There’s no shortage of bizarre things to hear about in this world, even when part of him doesn’t really want to.]
[Iwa’s eyes flash with something - interest, hope, disbelief? It’s hard to tell. But at any rate, even if that is true, this guy just said he doesn’t have anything like that here, so it wouldn’t matter.
[Unless...]
You know.
I heard that this place is formed from our memories - the people brought here, I mean.
The animals, the places, everything.
[So then, would it be possible that something like that could pop up here too? And could that mean...?]
[look, he's a bad guy, and when someone starts throwing around words like 'price' and 'payment', you can bet he's going to try and get out of it, himself. he is, however, not stupid enough to point that out, and so he just shrugs, before, wryly:] I'd almost rather it be something physical.
[he's absolutely not trading anything mental, just to get his physicality back. his mind is much more important to him]
Things are coming around. There are jobs to do, but no currency beyond bartering for whatever works between parties. And there are creatures to take care of. But...I understand. Without my abilities, I feel lost most days. Or what would be days. Sometimes hollow. That's why I started helping out at the flower shop and with a professor.
When you find an apartment to occupy, at the Merlaut?, there's this beach that washes random items onto the shore. You can find things to decorate or use.
You could have gone with any other adjective. If I met myself when I was your age, I'd find it all creepy and terrifying.
(how many times has he freaked out over something that today he would scoff at? iwai, you have no idea how much kimihiro gets being weirded out over things like that.)
Yeah, well. [Iwaizumi (somehow) refrains from rolling his eyes.] I haven’t been here too long, but I’ve seen enough shit that should be creepy and terrifying to last a life time.
[At least it feels that way, and yet.] I must have thicker skin than I look, I guess.
