Dark haired girl, about yea tall? [he indicates Melinoë's height, about a head shorter than him -- she's 5'10", he's 6'2"] Purple eyes? [might have not looked like that at all, if he ran into her during the shit in Mementos] Her name's Melinoë.

[As the description was being voiced Kaiba started to consider potential candidates. Dark-haired was already throwing him off, the height and eye color weren't anymore illuminating. Also, how dare you be taller by an inch Damien.] Melinoë? Huh. [Looking considerably baffled that his information network had failed in in this area. I mean sure, it wasn't a legit network- without either satellites or wireless communication but.. how had he missed meeting this person even once?]

Is..... she new? [Clearly, the only explanation. Even if it was in error]

[if it makes you feel any better, Kaiba, he usually doesn't look his height -- for how he has to stand, to stand comfortably, he loses a few inches]

[but at any rate, he studies him for a moment, trying to decide whether or not he's being facetious, and then huffs out a breath, before shaking his head] No. [a beat] She's been here since the beginning. [and another] Hangs out with that Viridi girl? [maybe that will help?]

[Look- he won't quibble about the inch in your case for long, Damien. The pair of them should really be taking issue with Raihan anyway as a unified front]

[For once, surprisingly, he isn't. The name nor the description isn't familiar to him. It's clear that he got the wrong of it from Damien's expression alone but further clarification followed] Huh. I would think in all that time... [He would have at least seen her, somewhere. This girlfriend of his was like an apparition]

Well- I can't say much for her taste in friends... [Then realizing that could be interpreted poorly] .. present company excluded. How can she stand that self-proclaimed nature goddess?

[Damien isn't really sure what he thinks of Viridi, himself, for how bipolar their first and only conversation was, so he just shrugs at the jab. a pause follows, as he continues, and then, with a wry smile, Damien informs him:] It might have something to do with the fact that she's a goddess, herself. Daughter of Hades and Persephone, I think.

[If Damien thought this next bit of information was going to impress one skeptical pragmatic duelist, he was sadly mistaken. The only Gods he dealt with were printed on cardstock, the rest was fabrication. So he stared at Damien for a little too long, attempting not to give away the thoughts racing through his mind until he settled on the correct response.]

You've been drinking the Kool-aid.

[He wished for no such thing. A goddess was likely to have a larger ego than himself and be just as high in maintenance. No thanks.]

I'd say you were right, if I hadn't seen some of the things she was capable of, while we were in that place.

[he didn't believe Melinoë was a goddess, either, when they first met -- to the point where they made a bet on it, him confident that he'd win. then they'd end up in Mementos, and he'd seen her, really seen her. he really couldn't argue, after that]

If you're referring to when we were all unconscious I can't say I'd accept it as irrefutable truth.

[Then again, when did Kaiba belief anything he didn't want to? He was still trying to figure out what all that persona stuff was with Ann. Still, at least in her case he knew the metaverse was accessed by a phone app so it sounded like some mix of augmented reality and something more in his wheelhouse. I mean, his holograms were capable of simulating death by design... COUGH.. it's just usually the safeguards were in place to keep things from going that far]

So what was she capable of?

[he shrugs]

I didn't suddenly develop super powers, just because we were asleep. [he could hack into the setting as a whole, but that's -- well, that's just an extension of what he could do already. if there wasn't some grain of truth to what she could do, even in a dream, he'll eat his hat]

But she was -- different. She looked different. [he can't really explain it, but she sure as fuck didn't look human, anymore. it wasn't a turn off, though] A ghost came to check on her. It was like something out of a fucking horror movie. [that was a little more -- something, but Melinoë insists the thing wasn't trying to scare him]
