Who: Aerith Gainsborough and YOU What: A general catchall log for the month! Where: Various locations within. When: Throughout the month. Content Warnings: n/a, will update if needed
Heh. I know a spirit back home who would just love you for saying that about your flowers. [She chuckled.] She never felt people loved flowers enough for her taste, but then again she was the youkai of flowers, so...
...
You wouldn't have liked her. Girl had a bad attitude, even by my standards. Never figured out why. None of us know.
"The flowers?" She has to assume, and glances back to them. "Well, yeah... There's a lot of weird nature around. I guess that's just the local breed, though."
It's a strange relief to have plant life so familiar here with her, even if it isn't exactly the same...
"I'm Aerith," she informs him, smiling politely. "And this...is my church! Or, it mostly is. I can't claim all the cakes and stuff."
[ Aerith turns to give Tifa her full attention, the weird mold forgotten. She can guess why this is happening; it hasn't been long since the plate fell onto Sector 7. Aerith herself remembers too easily what that scene had looked like, as she hurried through it to find Marlene.
Tifa doesn't mention the destruction of the bar - of her home sector entirely - and so neither does Aerith. ]
Well, I support you getting out there and exploring this wide, weird world a bit. And I'm happy to have you spend all the time you want in the church, with me! [ Her smile is slight, but not lacking in earnestness, or warmth. ] ...I know we haven't known each other for too long, but we've been through a lot, right? [ More than Tifa even knows. ] I'm always here to help with...whatever you need. Anytime! Okay? And Cloud, too, of course. Plus all the people you've met since you got here. I'm sure any one of them would be happy to help however they can.
You have? [ That clearly surprises - and delights - Aerith, who brightens immediately. ] Well, that settles it, then! Today, you're officially a florist again.
[ Whether he likes it or not, apparently! This is how Aerith is, alas. ]
I wonder if we could find some nice paper to wrap the bouquets in. And ribbon, or string, at least. Vases would be a nice touch, but that seems less likely... [ In the midst of her spoken train of thought, she spins to face him again, fingers laced out in front of her. ] So? What do you think?
Ooh, good question... I was actually picturing someone more sweet, but I think a sourpuss is funnier. [ Now she's just picturing Cloud in a lemon costume, though. ] I think I know someone who matches that description...
[ But he definitely didn't bring this cafe with him, so the mystery continues. ]
I really am interested in figuring it out, though. After all, this cafe is really cute, and the cakes look so good.
Ooh. [ Lightly, but not without a playfulness, Aerith raises her eyebrows at that description. ] Tall, dark, and handsome, huh? And with a mysterious scar? He sounds pretty dreamy, all right.
[ Another grumpy, handsome guy, huh? The world seems to be full of 'em. ]
Well...we'll look for that place, then. Maybe it's here, and you just haven't seen it yet. Or maybe it'll appear someday soon. [ With her boyfriend there, waiting? ] Now I'm making you a promise. You're gonna see those flowers again. And your boyfriend, too. Okay?
[ She has no proof of any of that, but Aerith isn't really a "proof" person. ]
[ No, she doesn't actually think it's dangerous, either...but, still! The nerve!! ]
Okay... [ Aerith raises her eyebrows and watches him take a bite...and then another...and then another... ]
You are the worst! [ She's absolutely leaning halfway across the table to try and snatch the utensil out of his hand to prevent him from taking any more. ] Gimme back my piece...!
A bad attitude, but a lover of flowers? [ Aerith tilts her head, smiling curiously. ] I'd still like to meet her. We have at least one thing in common!
[ Besides, it isn't as if a bad attitude has ever stopped her... ]
except he deserves it, so it's fine. he's a little curious to hear about the person she has in mind -- sourpusses are pretty funny, to be honest, so him and aerith are in agreement there.
terrible. they're dangerous people. ]
If I remember to, I can ask around. I kinda want a bite of those cakes too... [ ""remember to"". he says this casually, with no shame, both about his lack of memory and his more sugary motives-- ] Not that I think that kinda legwork is toootally necessary? You'll probably end up spending a big chunk of your time here, right? Odds are you'll run into the owner of those yummy snacks eventually!
[ and maybe they were even destined to meet, since their places got jammed together.........
....... except not really, but the thought is nice. ]
(He bows to accept the title, laughing a little bit. It's a nice touch of enthusiasm. Aerith is such a joy to be around, so he is sure this will be a nice partnership.
To the question, Ren brings a hand to his chin in thought.)
We can look at the beach, see what we can repurpose.
[He touches one of the flowers, just lightly feeling along the texture of the petals. That's a good question.]
I listen, mostly. Flowers, and trees and streams, they don't use words, usually. But the songs flow through them, swelling and sighing. Sometimes they share the whispers of what came before.
I talk to people sometimes, but listening is easier. Or, it was, when I could hear more.
[They might not have known each other for too long, it's true, but Aerith is the kind of person who makes her feel like they've known one another for much longer. Tifa would trust her with her life, and she feels... comfortable around her; like she isn't being judged, and she can speak openly about anything she needs to. It's nice... to have someone like Aerith in her life.]
Thank you, [she says, appreciation swelling in the smile she returns.] We haven't known each other for long, but I think it'll be a good opportunity to get to know each other better, right? We were so caught up in everything going on that we didn't get the chance to do that back home.
[The sad truth. It was one thing after another when they met. If they'd met under better circumstances, then things might have been a little different.]
"Good point! Maybe none of it's native. Maybe it's all from one of our worlds..."
No way to figure that out at the moment, though...unless they took a big poll of everyone who'd arrived thus far. For now, Aerith nods, still smiling as they continue the discussion surrounding the flowers.
"Yup! The whole church, minus the cafe parts. There's a ceiling hole missing, though."
Merlin might be able to follow her gaze upward and see where it's been patched...
"What about you, Merlin? Anything here belong to you?"
[ They're perfectly fine people!! It's not their fault that sourpusses are easy to tease!! ]
That's a good point! I kinda hope they find their way here on their own so they can see it firsthand. [ She may or may not give in before then, though, and sample the cakes. Maybe she can recruit said sourpuss into a taste-test. ] As far as combinations go, it's a weird one...but, I'm not complaining. Assuming the sweets taste as good as they look!
[ There's no way they're anything nefarious...right? ]
Great idea! There's tons of stuff there; I'm sure we can find something to use.
[ In may be junk, but that doesn't mean it's useless! Aerith looks hyped-up already about their venture, fists clenched in front of her as she bounces on the tips of her toes. ]
Can we go now? If you have some time, that is. I want to get a head-start on this plan!
[ Hmm. Aerith can sometimes speak enigmatically - with Cloud, especially - but nothing like this. She listens intently as Cole speaks, brows knit somewhat in thought. ]
That...kinda sounds like what I hear from them. They don't talk like people, or anything. It's...hard to describe.
[ As he's surely found. ]
I can't have the same, um - "conversations" with people, but that's okay. People don't have the same connection to the Lifestream that the plants do. It's tough, huh? Trying to figure out how to talk about this stuff.
My, isn't she a cheerful one? A pity Merlin can't actually feed on emotions like normal, as someone like her would be an excellent source of such light, sweet feelings that are so helpful in interacting with people.
"I see..." That is indeed a ceiling lacking any convenient holes. Hopefully the flowers will be fine.
"None that I'm aware of, besides the fact that some of the creatures here seem patched together from animals that could be from any number of different versions of Earth."
And given that he's met several people here who seem to come from precisely that, he couldn't say for certain.
[ "A little calmer" is an almost-laughable understatement. After all, they'd just come from escaping Shinra, defying fate by defeating the Whispers, and battling Sephiroth. There's so much from home that it's all Aerith can do to not think about, to try and embrace the calm and the fun of this world.
At least, for now. ]
They are for sure. It's like a vacation! [ Unfortunately, all vacations have to end sometime, but, for now - ] We can get to know each other, and get to know everyone else, too. Maybe Barret and Red XIII will even join us, if we're lucky!
[ There are a lot of people that she misses, including her mom, but...that doesn't mean they'd be happy here. Besides, she'll see...some of them again, when they return to Midgar.
Some. Not all. ]
So...what do you want to do first? Not right now, I mean, but when we get started? What's calling to you?
[It is hard, especially in a way that people can understand. It sounds like she knows what it's like, though. Whether it's exactly the same or not.]
I don't know what that is. But no one here knows about the Fade. Everything's the same, but different, too.
[Most (if not all) people here at least look like they're humans, and they understand many of the same concepts. But they don't always know that there are races other than humans, or that magic even exists. He's not sure what to make of it.]
It can be hard, to use the right words. I have to talk more now, to know what people have to say.
[It's a hard life, having to actually talk to people.]
[ While she wrestles him for the utensil, he tries to keep the cake from sliding off the plate in his other hand. Suddenly, time slows down as all he can do but watch it fall...
Except this is Final Fantasy, which means time picks up at regular speed again, and Cloud intercepts the falling piece of cake by kicking it up with his foot.
Time slows down again as the cake comes back up and... over their heads... which breaks mid-air and rains down on both of them as the slow-mo moment comes to an end. ]
