Whether or not the flowers would survive without any light remained to be seen. For now, at least, they seemed to be okay...
"Is that where you're from? Earth?"
The animals are definitely...interesting. There really haven't been many that she'd say for sure are familiar to her, but that's not so surprising, considering...everything else.
"I've seen a few places I sorta recognize, but not any of the creatures. Weird, don't you think?"
[Ah, Barret. She misses that big tree of a man and his loud, booming voice and even louder passion. She's always wondered how he would take being stuck in a world like this so suddenly... but her guess is that it wouldn't be as well as the three who have landed here.
Besides her big decision to leave the bar, Tifa hasn't thought much about what would come after that. There aren't a lot of possibilities at the moment, but enough that it should keep her busy for some time to come... until something bigger shows up.]
Well, after we get this place cleaned up, I dunno! Haven't really thought about it.
[Back to work she goes, now that she was able to get that off her chest. She comes over to the kitchen next to Aerith and sprays the counter with cleaner, and her bird trudges up behind them to see what they're up to.]
Never had much time to do much else back in Midgar, what with the bar and all. What kinds of things did you do for fun?
Perhaps it would be worthwhile to attempt to replant some of them elsewhere. To see if they'd grow somewhere else in general, and to give them better growing conditions than inside a building with questionable lighting.
"Yes, as well as a few others here, as far as I can tell." Not necessarily the same Earth, mind, parallel worlds are a known phenomenon to him, but still fundamentally Earth.
"That is, specific buildings or places like this one?" That is interesting.
[ She's halfway through an amused chuckle when the woman offers her a brand new promise, and she breaks off with wide eyes. They've known each other for mere minutes; Rinoa doesn't even know her name yet, but she's promising her? Suddenly, she understands how Squall must feel when she springs one of her schemes on him. The laugh surfaces again a moment later, tinged now with a hint of surprise, and Rinoa is smiling, nodding her understanding and belief. ]
Okay.
[ The agreement comes easily; she's never really been a "proof" person, either. Even before her powers, she'd always subscribed to the belief that wanting something was enough. ]
It's a promise, then.
[ Rinoa's smile broadens, the worry and tears of the moment before almost entirely subsided. ]
What about you? Is there anyone you're searching for?
Alrighty! [ Without further ado, she brushes herself off and follows, walking out of the church-cafe and toward the beach alongside Ren. ] So...how have you been? Settling in pretty well?
[ As well as anyone can, in these circumstances? ]
I've never heard of the Fade, but I bet we're talking about something similar. And - if not? I get the feeling.
[ She doesn't feel isolated, exactly, but Aerith has always had distance between herself and others, being the last of the Cetra. Maybe Cole is...alone like that, too. ]
"Now?" Have you started trying to talk to them a bit more than you did before? ...To be honest, though...it can be hard to use the right words in most situations. They're tricky!
[ Well, isn't this just some quality slapstick comedy? ]
You...! [ Oh, jeez. Aerith now has cake all over herself as the scene comes to an end, accepting the utensil without a word. She turns a flat-mouthed, unimpressed look on Cloud for a minute before breaking out into a smile, giggling a bit and brushing herself off. ]
I don't think I've ever seen you do anything that silly. Maybe you've got a little bit of playfulness in there, after all, Mr. SOLDIER!
[ Aww, she already knew that, but...it's still always so fun to tease him. ]
So, that happened... Guess I'll never know if the cakes were any good or not.
[ There are others, obviously, but the one they'd been enjoying is in chunks all over the ground. ]
It's okay. You don't have to get it all figured out right away. [ That'd be unreasonable! Besides, they have a big task on their hands right now. Aerith goes back to work when Tifa does, starting to tackle the sink problem with a freshly-wrinkled nose. ]
Fun? Hmm... [ There wasn't much time for it, honestly. That admission won't help in this situation, though, so she thinks it through for a bit more as she works, frowning thoughtfully down at the gross mess. ] Well, working with the flowers was kinda fun for me...but, other than that, I mostly just wandered around, saw what was going on... Talked to people, you know? Everyone has a lot to say if you just listen. But, I'm sure you know that.
[ Tifa owned a bar, after all. There aren't a lot of better places to hear people spill their guts than that! ]
I guess I mostly just kept myself busy. For me, helping other people around town made me feel good, so...maybe that's what I did for fun? [ Aerith admits a laugh, shrugging. ] That probably sounds kinda lame, but...there you go.
What can I say, your childishness rubbed off on me.
[ Was that an insult or compliment?! It's a mix of both, because he has gotten comfortable around her, but at the time, her observation immediately makes him put his walls up again, which caused him to critique her in return. ]
Here - just have mine.
[ A fair trade. He never meant to let her go hungry anyway. The lack of mental stimulation in this world just made him want to tease her with the cake, but that's enough games.
"More like this place. It's kinda familiar, but there are pieces of it that are...new."
Like Wall Market, and 7th Heaven. Both definitely here...in some ways, but not quite right.
"I'm not sure what to make of it," Aerith says, shrugging, "But, honestly? I'm not thinking about it too much, either. We'll get answers when we get 'em. This doesn't seem like the kind of place where you can march right up to someone and demand they tell you what's going on!"
Which. She would absolutely do, if given the chance.
[ Some times are harder than others, but...she has a lot of practice. ]
It's okay. We all have different experiences, so it makes sense that we'd all have different perspectives, right? Besides, nobody should be expected to be bright and cheery all the time. That'd just be impossible!
It's right along the lines of what Tifa did, too. Sure, she ran a bar, and had little time to do much else outside of that, but she was still helping people—listening to them, talking to them, and she likes to think that being an ear for those who needed one, even if it was their bartender, was helping them. Giving them a place where they felt they belonged...]
That's as good as any place to start, I think? Helping the people around here, especially you. I've got faith you can run a flower shop and cake shop on your own, but why should you? Better to do it with friends, I think.
[Which is why she's already vowed to help with that!]
Then, oh! There's a barbecue stand in Wall Market that might be kind of fun... We're all going to have to eat eventually, right?
Me? [ Yes, but also, her situation is...complicated. As such, Aerith maintains the bright, cheery demeanor and shakes her head.
She'd never had it confirmed, what had happened to Zack, but...she knew. ]
Nope! Not really. Well, unless you count some of my friends. I have two of them here with me - Cloud, and Tifa - and some others who didn't come with us. If you see a...hmm, a talking, red dog-like creature, or a big guy with a gun for an arm, then let me know, okay?
[ Maybe it's for the best that Red XIII and Barret aren't here, but it might be nice to see them, if they're all going to be stuck in this world for a while. ]
He might act flighty and careless at times, but he's been paying attention to what he's told.
"I noticed that the 'bar and cafe' seems to feature two or three different architectural styles, to say nothing of the chimeric animals here."
He's quite sure that's noteworthy, even if he doesn't have much by way of theories why. Still, he considers that common knowledge, and mentions it mostly as a passing remark. Merlin's attention is still preoccupied on the flowers, after all.
"Would they even take if some were transplanted elsewhere..." He half mutters, clearly speaking to himself.
A couple of you folks definitely put in an effort to try and get there. I gotta say. But you're not wrong. Unless you're literally a spirit of happiness, it's not possible to always be happy.
...
You have no idea how annoying a spirit of happiness would be until you meet one.
death by cake. but leo does look at them a little pensively now. it's not like... he's hungry, of course. obvious reasons for that. but who ever wants sweets simply because they're hungry?
and just... talking about them so much... his fingers drum on his knee, a little impatient. ]
... Ahhh, we keep mentioning the taste! I can't!
[ gaze back to aerith: ]
Wanna give 'em a try with me, Aery? I wanna know now! I'm not a big sweets guy, but it seems like such a waste to leave 'em there to wonder...!
[ he is truly too gremlin to wait for this unknown owner to show up ]
Oh, gimme a break. [ She'd been teasing, and when he offers his cake she quirks a brow before taking a mollified bite.
It's cake worth fighting for, she thinks! ]
I mean, I'm gonna spend a lot of time here. You probably knew that. [ It's her church, after all. At least, partially. ] Do you mean a real shop, though? I dunno...I tried that once and it...didn't go great.
[ Her business partner at the time had been a touch aggressive. ]
But, this is a new place, right? A new start might be exactly what I need. [ Scheming, she snaps her gaze back to Cloud. ] I'll need some help with deliveries if I do. Know anybody for the job?
I'd really like that. [ Aerith isn't a person who particularly relishes solitude, so having Tifa and Cloud to help out - along with Ren - seems to brighten her expression. ] Besides, just because I can grow flowers doesn't mean I'm business-y. I'll need some help there!
[ From a woman who definitely knows how to run a business! ]
Ooh, that sounds good... [ Her stomach's already growling a bit at the idea, honestly. ] Want to head over there tonight? To celebrate...well, anything! Your new perspective, and...us being here, and safe.
[ Safer than they'd been, probably. Things aren't perfect, but they're unexpectedly...okay. ]
We can invite whoever wants to come. I'm sure there's more than enough to go around. [ She's hoping, anyway. ]
[If there were any doubts in Tifa's mind about leaving Heavenly Blanc to pursue other endeavors, they've long since vanished now. With Cloud and Aerith's support behind her, she's sure that this will turn her around, and it will be something more positive in the end—less about the fact that Seventh Heaven is here, and more about what she enjoys, and spending time with them!
Aerith's enthusiasm has helped a ton with that.
Tifa sways on her feet, almost shy about what she has to say next.]
Uh, I was thinking maybe just the two of us...? Consider this an official celebration and beginning to project number one: getting to know each other better!
[ Without skipping a beat, he answers with a hint of desperation-- ]
I'll do it.
[ He doesn't even know if this was her game all along, but he's seriously losing his mind without having anything to do. Even if there could be better candidates than him, he's not about to give them something as precious as a job! ]
--I-I mean, what. What is it? The flowers, yeah? I... I could help you find someone. It's gonna be hard finding the right person, though.
(As much as one can be while dealing with everything Ren has been dealing with. There's so much happening that is making his head spin a little, but even so...! Calm and collected he goes.)
What about you? You seem so excited about the place, it's very refreshing.
(He honestly thinks so, but also, most of his meetings with Aerith gave him a similar feeling. She's just very bubbly!)
Oh! [ She knows Cloud and Tifa! She's met them both a few times now, and... Her smile turns amused, a little giggle on her lips as she grins at Aerith, something almost sly. ] Cloud's a real funny guy. I didn't know he was from the same place as you! And Tifa too... I like her a lot.
And if I find the others, I'll definitely let you know.
[ It's the least she can do, right? But wow, still... ]
If they're your friends, you must be a really good person too, Aerith!
[She could be right, or maybe not. It's hard to tell. It would be nice though, in some way, to know that there is some other world out there that has something like the Fade.]
[He straightens back up to his feet, but doesn't lift his head.]
Yes. [To all of that.] I can't hear what hurts, so I have to ask. But people don't always say what they're feeling, and words can hurt without meaning to.
"Right." The hole made by a guy falling through the roof, and then expanded when a second guy fell through the roof years later.
The comment about the bar and cafe has her nodding, reflecting on her visits to Heavenly Blanc so far. It...definitely has a lot of aspects of Seventh Heaven, but there are aspects that aren't the same, too. Like her church, and all the other locations of this world.
So weird.
"I'd be willing to give it a try. With a few of them, at first, as an experiment." She isn't sure where yet - there isn't one spot that seems obviously better for the test than another - but it might be worth the attempt. "Know any place you think they'd do well?"
