[War flashbacks intensify. Except not really. They'll both be okay to face the snow here another day. Maybe. Or at least watch it from indoors with a warm drink.]
You mentioned that before... [That some of her friends had went home for a while. It didn't sound promising if she had looked everywhere and there was more than one that she couldn't find now. But, ever the optimist:] It doesn't hurt to look though, right? Just to make sure. What do they look like? I'll keep an eye out for them. Two sets of eyes are better than one.
no subject
[ That. That was a uh, challenging experience. She likes parties, and she likes hanging out with her friends. But there's only so much social time this former loner can take, and add that with getting iced in? No. Never again. ]
Even if they went home, they're desperately needed there, so it's not... really a bad thing, you know? [ That's assuming they went home and aren't, y'know. Dead. But she doesn't think so. Well. Akechi doesn't count. ] That's really sweet of you, thanks! Ren's tall, scruffy black hair with glasses, super friendly, and his boyfriend's name is Goro Akechi. He's about the same height as Ren but he's a lot less scruffy and he's got light brown hair. [ And is a total fuckin fake but deets-- ] Haru is a little shorter than me, she's got really curly short brown hair and she's super elegant! Yoshizawa-san is also just a little shorter than me with long red hair that she always keeps up with a ribbon.

[A joke. That's a joke. Somehow that party doesn't sound super fun...]
Well... more like we've had a lot of catching up to do. [Had? Have? Whatever it was, there was what felt like a massive amount of information being exchanged.] Either way, that one will have to come later.
[Yugi frowns for just a moment. He gets her point, but--] It doesn't have to be a bad thing to be troubled by it. So I'll be on the lookout for them. It doesn't sound like they'll be too hard to spot here from what you've said. [A small pause before adding:] Feelings between friends are strong, but you deserve to know for sure.
no subject
[ THAT. Is the party that wasn't any fun. Probably. ]
That's great, though! I'm glad that you two have been able to sit down and chat for a while. I'll bet you both had lots of questions. [ Ann can only imagine that Seto probably asked about Mokuba. And whoever that weirdo Dartz dude is. Probably about his company, too... she hopes whatever answers Yugi had for him, they were good. But considering that there is no Seto Kaiba screaming into the void or flipping tables at the moment, she's going to assume that it all went well. ]
Still, I really appreciate it. I guess, more or less, I'm just a little bit... rattled, I guess. I haven't been without at least one friend in years. [ She lets out a small, nervous sounding laugh, before she waves her hands lightly. ] Yeah... you're right. It's just really strange to think that they're suddenly not here. Wherever they are, I just hope they're okay.
no subject
[It was a little more complicated than that, but no need to go through timeline hopping problems right now.]
There's still a lot to mull over. But we're getting there. [Wherever 'there' was.]
That makes sense. [And, it did. He was used to being surrounded by his friends too before he wound up here.] Being alone suddenly would be upsetting, and there's nothing wrong with missing your friends from home. And hoping that they're okay. That's normal. [He looks to the side, just so no one feels obligated to make eye contact.] I hope this doesn't come across wrong, but... it sounds like you still have friends here. It doesn't replace them, but you sound pretty close to Kaiba at least. [Even if he possibly didn't like using that word with Ann either, but maybe he did?] You still have people to rely on.
no subject
[ Dude. She gets it on the timeline situation... it's all very complicated and makes no sense at all. Period. Then again, there's next to nothing here that really makes sense. ]
I'll bet there is! But you two will figure it out, I'm sure of it. I'm just really glad that you have each other here. [ It's far, far less jarring to see and experience the weird phenomenon here if you have someone here that you're familiar with, at least. That's what she's found. ]
I think... they're probably exactly where they need to be now. It's just weird to wake up and suddenly they're not here. [ Months and months of Phantom Thievery at home and a little bit here have caused her to maybe be a little too dependent on her teammates, and she's just realizing that now. ] Oh! No, it doesn't come across wrong at all, because you're right! I do have friends here, and I'm really glad for that. Most everyone here is super helpful and understanding. [ She smiles again, even if it's a little tired, although she does turn a bright red at the mention of Kaiba, and she laughs nervously, waving her hands around. ] Oh, yeah! Yeah, we're good friends! So, I'm really lucky! Haha...ha.
[ Subjectchangesubjectchange-- ]
Hey, have you gotten a living space situated for yourself yet? If you need help moving things, I'd be glad to help.
no subject
[Okay, that's enough of that. He nods his head.] But really, he's been super helpful. I can't think of anything he might have missed, but if he did skip something I'll go to you first, Ann.
[Maybe they can be grab a drink and grouse over timeline shenanigans sometime. This stuff is complicated.
... Except. HM. Wow that sure is a suspicious reaction, Ann. Yugi is too nice of a person to poke at it just yet though, so he'll take that blatantly obvious subject change.] I've got one of the rooms in the apartment you mentioned. There's not much to move though, just me. I'm not really sure what else I need...
no subject
[ Sounds the exact opposite, actually. She's pretty sure she's seen at least two movies about plants bursting out of people's chests... or maybe those were aliens. It's probably all the same, and nothing that either one of them should probably ever experience if it can be avoided. ] I'm so glad! It's really good to hear that he's being helpful and not patronizing and weird!
[ Likely, Yugi's been subject to Kaiba's special self on far more than one occasion, so she doesn't have to elaborate because he probably understands better than anyone here. And yes, she will never say no to a chat about shitty timeline things over a nice, sugar filled beverage.
She's very fortunate that Yugi isn't pushing the issue here, and she looks visibly relieved when he doesn't point and immediately start trying to get more info out of her. TOTAL CRISIS AVERTED! ] It's hard at first, I know... if you want, when you're ready, I can go to the beach with you and we can look for stuff to decorate your room with! Something to liven it up, you know? I'll bet we can find something really cool!
no subject
[The conversation actually was full of very helpful information - but, let's be real, there was probably a little edge of patronizing somewhere in those words, even if it was unintentional. Nothing he can't handle; certainly not his 'special self' on full display.] He was on his best behaviour, promise. He even offered a ride on his jet... which is still really weird to know he has here.
I'd really like that! Let's do that sometime. I bet your decorating skills are way better. [Says the boy whose fashion sense includes collars and a school uniform even outside of school...] I guess this is... technically the first time I've moved out? I thought I would be living at home for a while longer. [While it could sound sad, it doesn't here - he seems to be rolling with the punches for now.]
no subject
[ That's probably going to be SUPER EASY, right? Probably. But Ann looks pleased as Yugi confirms that Seto was, in fact, being a Good Personโข and not his usual extra, moody self. ] That's great to hear! And yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but he seems really happy to have it. It's really strange to think that someone our age owns and pilots a jet, and yet... it's not really surprising, considering just everything he's accomplished so far. I wish I could be as driven and smart as he is. I hope you guys get to go out and do that soon!
[ Well, she can probably be as driven as he is if she really wants to be. Smart, though? That's a cute thought that she's already batting off to the side. She's barely scraping through high school, man. ]
Definitely! Aha, I dunno about that, right now my place looks a little bit more like a bomb went off in it because I've found that I have a bad habit of dragging things home and then not knowing where to put them... [ The apartments are small, and there's a distinct lack of cute things washing up on the beach, so she's been trying to be artsy and make her own things but really, Shiho had said it best: her art skills suck. Also, she gets the school uniform thing, dude. She gets it. Hers appeared here with a few other items of clothes so she's been wearing it on and off, too. ] It's a weird feeling, right? I was living at home too still, sorta. My parents live in Finland and travel a lot, so I was living by myself in Japan for the time being... er, in their house. You know what I mean.
no subject
Yeah, it's kind of weird sometimes to think we used to be in the same class in high school before... [Yugi kind of trails off there, not quite sure how to finish that thought.]... before everything else happened, I guess. But I am glad we got to see each other again, back in Domino and here. Even in a place like this, I really am happy to see him, even if he doesn't really care.
[Whether because Kaiba really doesn't care or because Kaiba's gonna tsundere this magical friendship -- either is fine.]
Oh, you lived by yourself? You're way ahead of me then. I bet you know how to be independent already, and we're... well, we must be pretty close to the same age if Kaiba is around yours. [Again, if you ignore the whole time distorting thing going on here. Actually, maybe that makes Yugi the senpai here...] I'll follow your instruction then on how to live on your own.
no subject
You two were in the same class, too? He did mention something about Domino High when we were comparing our schools a while back. I guess I always expected him to go to some sort of fancy private academy for geniuses or whatever. [ Because again, Kaiba here. Everything else though, huh? She doesn't know whether that's a good thing or not, but it's something to note for later on. She doesn't want to push anything that maybe Yugi won't want to talk about, and besides, maybe it's something private and not at all her business. ] I'm glad, too! And I think he cares more than he lets on. You... you know how he is.
[ Listen, Yugi more than knows how Kaiba is, having been around him for far longer than anyone else here. It's almost tempting to ask him if he's got any embarrassing Seto stories, in fact. But, later. Maybe. ]
I did! Sorta. My parents had someone come in and check up on me from time to time, but I was basically alone. [ Which made her Phantom Thievery a hell of a lot easier to get away with. She doesn't know how the others who had actual parents or siblings to watch over them got away with it. Get away? Get away, because at home they're still doing that whole... thing. ] I'll bet we are! I just turned seventeen at home. [ Yugi is 1000000% the senpai here, in every single way possible. She blinks, and then laughs nervously. ] I wouldn't advise that! If you take my advice, it'll just involve laying around all day, screwing around on your phone, ignoring your school work and then getting to school the next morning and having to rush to study or do your homework but it's too late... and that's when the chalk comes flying directly at your face.
[ Is. Is she having some sort of school PTSD flashback here? Yes. Yes, she is. She blinks a few times, pulling herself out of it, before she waves her hands around. ]
Anyways, my advice on living alone is pretty sucky! I guess as long as you keep your place clean, that's pretty much all that matters. It's really no different than living with parents or friends.
no subject
Yeah, we were in the same year, and our school wasn't exactly fancy or prestigious. Though I didn't see him come back all that much after the first while. [Actually, did he come back at all? Then again, Yugi meandered off to play card games on an island, and then card games in a city that Kaiba sort of founded, and then card games in America, and then card games in Egypt... yeah, Yugi didn't go to school much either. See: "rules" and "logic" not applying to Domino. Though, to be fair, he did go back to attending school regularly after the Egypt shenanigans.] It doesn't really surprise me though. He's already really accomplished and smart, and I can't imagine running a corporation on top of trying to get through high school...
[Are there embarrassing stories? There are stories Kaiba would find embarrassing, but that's not quite the same thing. Give him time to think though and Yugi should be able to think of something that's a painless, guilt-free embarrassing story for them to bond over. Maybe over some cookie wager assistance.]
I know we're, you know, here, but I honestly can't even imagine that. I've always lived with Grandpa, and we live where he works so... he's always around. [Yugi is, in fact, the senpai here, because:] Oh, we are then! I just turned eighteen. [Have fun having half a foot on your senpai, Ann.]
Ah, that sounds... oddly specific...[Those war flashbacks come full circle, I see.] But the rest of it sounds pretty good! Chalk flinging aside, it sounds like you have a handle on it.
no subject
Wow! Didn't come back, huh? I'm not surprised either, he told me a long time ago that he tested out of Domino, which sounds like it might be for the best 'cause he says he's usually pretty busy with his company and his younger brother. [ Mokuba. She's seen Mokuba via Kaiba's memories, at least, one memory that wasn't very pleasant. ] It must be a lot of pressure, being so young and having all that weight on his shoulders... I'm surprised he doesn't have wrinkles yet.
[ Tell them to her, Yugi. They can munch on snacks and practice dueling and exchange what will probably be hilarious Kaiba stories. ]
It could be kinda rough at times, and I'd be lying if I said there weren't times I wasn't super pissed off that they paid more attention to their work than me... [ All the times she'd tried to call and contact her mother, specifically, about a certain piece of shit volleyball coach, and all of those calls getting sent to voice mail to the point she'd just given up entirely. ] That sounds really great, though! Great and convenient! Does he ever make you work there, too?
[ Short senpai-- ] Ooo! When's your birthday? Happy belated birthday, how's adulthood feel so far? You know, aside from the weirdness that is all of this?
[ Chalk hurts, man. Fortunately Ren came and took her place as the newest victim to the chalk, even if he's learned to easily move out of the way at this point. She's also learned not to fall asleep in class. Score. ] Ahaha, a little specific, maybe. It's not too bad, no! And I do, now at least, thanks to my friends. It was a little bumpy for a while there, but it's pretty good now.
