That works, it'll have to be a little fuzzy cause of weird timing, but it works.
The very clear pause will come once they've finished running the current course, at which point it should become very clear that this is a weird game. It seems the goal of running was to collect materials to craft items with? At least, a list saying what they've earned has popped up, and it all looks like the kind of stuff you'd use for crafting in a videogame.)
Mutou-Yugi. Greetings. Working arcade games are limited.

[And, yes, this is a weird game. But it's a game nonetheless and as far as he's aware lives aren't on the line for it so - it's a good (weird) game that he was fully invested in watching Legion play before they paused.]
Do you know what you're supposed to make with those items?
no subject
(They indicate the player character, a ... potato ... cat? Like the game, it seems to be the sort of bizarre mashup an inadequately trained neural network might spit out.)
Affirmative.
(They press a button and open up a list. Looks like there's a bunch of randomly generated crafting goals. Looks like they've also met the requirements to make the next item!)
no subject
[He really has no room to judge, some of his go-to characters are weird.]
Oh! It's like crafting and... hm. Not really sure what the point of those goals are. Collecting them could just be the win conditions. Or maybe you need them to get to the boss? If there even is a boss...
[But! He wants to see the next item!! Please let the poor game-obsessed boy see...]
Do you mind if I watch for a bit? No backseat gaming, I promise.
no subject
(They don't remark on the cuteness--that's a concept they don't fully understand.)
We are uncertain if this world understands the concept of win conditions.
(They speak as though it is alive, because that is what they have come to believe.)
We do not mind. (Their headflaps ripple.) Suggestion: we could take turns?
no subject
[You know, a running/crafting slice-of-life plot.]
Are you sure? I, um, wouldn't say no, but-- you don't have to.
[And he very much looks like he'd rather lose a limb than say no in this situation.]
no subject
(The items appear to be entirely randomized, and the recipes only mostly make sense. Legion hasn't seen a repeat in what can be made yet.
Yugi's clear interest in the game helps bring out their own enthusiasm.)
We would not have suggested it if we were not.
(Legion often prefers to play with others.)
no subject
[It's either the prospect of a game or Legion's brand of enthusiasm that makes Yugi appear just as enthused. It also makes him a little bolder, standing closer to Legion (no sitting for him, the screen might be a bit too high then...)]
But at least finish your crafting first. You got the items, so you should get to see what the prize is. Claim your reward!
no subject
Acknowledged.
(Their headflaps lift and they turn back to the screen, inputting the comand to craft the item. It's ... a rather comfy looking black turtleneck? Makes a degree of sense, since one of the ingredients was several stacks of mimic fur... but the other item was glue. Does the game think that you somehow glue threads together to make cloth?
Either way, Legion moves to let Yugi take over now that their turn is complete.)
no subject
Looks like you might be right. It's hard to guess how... this would be part of a win condition.
[Seriously. It's a shirt. But Yugi is excited for Legion's prize anyway!! His excitement doubles when it's his turn, nodding determinedly at Legion before stepping up to the controls. Only the first few moments have the awkward movements one gets when still learning controls. But soon (very soon) he seems to have it down pat, collecting items and avoiding the nonsensical things that would make them lose (like that hotdog-dog rolling down the character's path). Even if there is no way to technically win here.]
This game is so weird, but I kind of like it? It doesn't really make sense yet, but it's not a bad game. It has rules and mechanics like a game should have.
[Said during a lull in the game - don't worry, they're not going to lose due to being distracted.]
no subject
Affirmative. Though it lacks win conditions or overarching narrative, it remains playable.
(It's unique, that's for sure. They watch as Yugi deftly avoids the obstacles.)
You are skilled.
no subject
[Gosh these two are going to be adorable gaming dorks together and that's completely fine.]
Thanks! Probably beginner's luck? I played a lot of games back home.
[Maybe not so much luck-based. Did he just find a secret bonus room in the level? That's a yes.]
no subject
(Legion needs more people to be adorkable with. Let the nerdy robot be a nerd!)
If you have played games before, you are not a beginner.
(Maybe at this game specifically he is, but everyone is a beginner at this game, so does it really count?)
no subject
Well, if that's the condition then I'm not a beginner at all. My grandpa owns a game shop, so I've played a lot. Nothing like this one though!
[Annnd there's the end of the level. What's the prize for finding that cool bonus room and doing so well on the level?]
... ah. It's a rock.
[Not terribly exciting.]
no subject
They wonder if Yugi's arrival will result in additional games being added to the world?)
...Affirmative.
(What is a rock going to be used for? It doesn't seem like much of a reward.)
