[ Their mental well-being had taken a beating for sure--when the memory swapping incident's jab hit one way, the nightmare's hook hit another way, and that left them reeling to put it mildly. If nothing else, they were home now, or at least the closest thing they had to home. As they entered the apartment that still felt so empty without Alys, they let out a heavy sigh.
Whatever Turing was expecting upon their return, it wasn't this.
That was their easel and canvases set up neatly in the middle of the room, along with a very familiar looking box. Turing rushed over to the box, though in their haste they stumbled over their own feet and tumbled to the floor right in front of it. Oof. Their quick trip to the floor did little to deter them, and they scrambled to their knees to open the box and see some very familiar looking tubes of paint and other supplies. They hadn't seen these in a very long time, or at least it had felt that way. It was something positive and familiar; two things they desperately needed at the moment.
Without even a second thought, they began carting their easel and everything else outside of the apartment complex with an uncharacteristic disregard for how much noise they were making. It took a few trips to boot, oops. They would offer apologies later, but for now there was art to be made! ]
[ taking a very long (and not nightmareish) rest, ahsoka had been spending little time at the apartment complex when she could be outside instead. however there was something she needed to grab back in her room, which put her on the path to a little droid carrying a lot in its arms.
Uh - [ she makes a small sound, cringing a little at the hard metal clanking sounds echoing in an otherwise silent hallway. ] - hey Turing, do you want any help?
Oh! [ Turing peeked around the load they were carrying and smiled. It was a stark contrast to all the seriousness that had hung over their last conversation. ]
Hello, Ms. Ahsoka! I would very much appreciate your help. [ The canvases on top obscured their vision the most, so that was an obvious choice. ]
Yes, I do! I didn't have my painting supplies when I first arrived here, but when I came back to my apartment today, I found all them there waiting for me. [ Which was...weird, but beggars couldn't be choosers, as they say. ]
This will be my first painting in a very long time!
[ a collection of supplies just randomly appearing is pretty suspicious! then again, this world seems to create what they want. or at least an approximation of it. perhaps then it responded to turing's desire.
that a droid would even want to create is impressive. she's already known turing to be advanced than the droids she is so familiar with, yet is still pleasantly surprised. ]
Well, I'll have to watch your career with great interest. [ she grins gently. ] Just tell me where you want these to go.
My career? I never considered making painting into a career before. I've always just painted how I feel. [ ...Sorry Ahsoka, they're very bad at catching jokes. Though maybe hearing about a robot painting based on their feelings evened things out a bit? ]
I'd like to take them outside of the apartment building. I've never painted outside before!
[ especially in a timeless void! he definitely didn't get the joke, but it's fine. she figures they couldn't go outdoors much given what they told her previously. a top secret droid project and all can't be wandering out. ]
A change of setting is always good. Will you paint nature then?
[ There was that time that they had sneaked out in the middle of the night anyway to see the trees and nature in person, but that was neither here nor there. ...Though it had resulted in a notable improvement for their painting skills that even Hayden had acknowledged. ]
Yes! I'd like to paint some of the trees that I never saw before arriving here, but today I'm going to paint while using the sky as inspiration.
[ Turing's preferred style of painting was already inclined toward the weird lava lamp situation going on up there. ]
[ the sky huh. ahsoka hums, wondering how clueless she should allow herself to sound. art has never been much her thing... though she knows it's because she was never given much chance to think about it being a thing at all. jedi never practiced such things. ]
Do you... mind if I observe? [ she bites the inside of her cheek, then hurriedly- ] Unless you work better alone! It's ok if you do.
[ Turing's reaction differed from Ahsoka's anxiety by quite a bit. In fact, their expression lit right up at someone taking such an interest in their art! ]
Not at all! You're welcome to paint with me as well if you'd like to try!
[ They had never painted something in tandem with someone else, but it sounded like it could be interesting. And because they were interested, they were also in a big hurry to set everything up and get started! ]
Ren doesn't let them struggle before approaching and taking some of the objects into his own hands, moving outside with the tiny robot. The noise is not an issue, but seeing tiny robot have any difficulties sure is...)
[ Someday they will teach you the secret to their adorableness, Ren. Someday. Then, you will be unstoppable...!!
The help was much appreciated! It wasn't so much the weight that was the problem; it was more the fact that having everything stacked up meant they couldn't see where they were going, but that was just splitting hairs. Honestly it was a very good thing that Ren came to help before they had to go down any stairs or anything similar. ]
Yes! There's something very relaxing about being able to paint as well. I very much welcome it after...ah, recent events.
[ Painting outside was also helpful, even if the spot Turing eventually chose was still fairly close to the apartments. ]
The problem was that little robot couldn't do everything alone, so Ren is here to help! He carries as much as he can. He's been around Yusuke enough to sort-of-kind-of know where things go and whatnot, so he starts to help create the setting the best he could with the memories he has.)
[ While the fact that Ren knew how to set everything up was great, there was also another part that very much drew Turing's attention. In one way, that was a little unfortunate. ]
It is, thank you! Do you paint as well?
[ Surely that was the reason why he knew where everything went! ]
The same is true for me! ...Well, partly. There is something therapeutic about painting how I feel.
[ They began to dig through their paints, and carefully picked out each one. There were a few that Turing took out only to put back, while others went right onto their palette without a second thought. ]
(Ren finds a place to sit, knuckles supporting his chin while his elbow sits on his thigh. There's something really special about watching someone do what they love, and Turing is no exception when it comes to Ren's admiration.)
[ Another added benefit of painting out their feelings was that it also forced them to think about how they were feeling in the present. Did mindfulness exercises work for ROMs in the same way they worked for humans? Turing still wasn't sure how much of human psychology applied to them, but that was beside the point.
The actual point was that their feelings were all tangled up after what had happened, and their painting was starting to reflect that. The aged tree trunk had taken on dark blues and purples instead of their usual pastels, and it leaned as if it was about to topple over with a strong enough wind. The branches it supported were doing no better and swirled around each other, with some tied into literal knots that would stubbornly resist any attempts to untie them.
...This was not exactly a cry for help, but they also weren't done yet. ]
