I don't mean an agenda. I mean 'hitsuzen' - just that there is no coincidence in the world, it's all inevitability. Fate does its part, regardless of an agenda.

(two mages walk into a bar--, or not yet. kimihiro did take in consideration the attire and the staff, all very fitting of someone like himself, even if he doesn't fit the same aesthetic.)

"Ah, one of those types!"

At least he says it cheerfully.

What does that mean?

(Not confrontational, just curious.)

"Oh, you know, the ones who'll just sit back and let things happen, because there's no point in trying if nothing will change, right?"

There might be just a hint of mocking in Merlin's tone. Or maybe it's just your imagination.

That's not what it means. Making a decision and attempting to fight a future one might not like, too, is inevitable.

(oh dear lord, there we go.)

"I don't know about that... There are plenty of possibilities that don't exist simply because enough people, or the right people, chose otherwise, after all."

He's not only watched, but also guided and meddled in human history himself.

"While some things are naturally an eventuality, and some fates unavoidable once one starts down a path, I wouldn't take the choices people make on the way there so lightly."

Isn't that inevitable in itself? I don't believe in coincidences, if the wording helps you comprehend where I am coming from.

"I'm not speaking of coincidences, either. Simply that humans have the capability to shape history to their liking, without regard to such things as fate."

Merlin doesn't think everything is necessarily inevitable. Even humanity's end doesn't have to mean humanity's extinction, but perhaps merely becoming something greater than human.

That is not wrong. (and it doesn't go against his ideals and comprehension either, at least what merlin expressed in words.) What else can you tell me about this place?

Merlin shrugs.

"Essentially, this world started as nothing, much like you see out here, and then various things from the worlds the people who arrived here were from appeared. Or at least, an imitation of them, usually combined in some way with other things."

And danger? Anything to keep an eye on?

(what kind of place doesn't have wildlife?)

"So far, nothing in particular."

He could leave it at that, and almost does, but...

"To be precise, nothing exists here--including such concepts as hunger or injury--until and unless this world has adopted it from the influence of the people who've been brought here."

Yes, that seems to include death, too, but Merlin thinks that's a rather obvious conclusion.

Like the world is learning.

(yeah he got it. kimihiro sighs for the time being.)

"Learning, growing, evolving, something like that."

Merlin can't rule out the possibility of it being an artificial world generated by some sort of powerful magecraft... but really, the reasons are less important than the actual outcome.

"So, that saying 'be careful what you wish for' is especially true here!"

(FINALLY, something they agree on.)

As it tends to be.

(he isn't sure where to go from here, so kimihiro just shrugs, studying the other waiting to see where the conversation goes next.)

Merlin could very well argue with that statement if he felt like it, but eh, he's lazy, and still wouldn't get anything more than mild amusement out of it anyway.

"Of course, you probably won't get much done if you just sit around out here, you know," he points out.

It was never in the plans.

"Then, in that--" Whatever Merlin's about to say is interrupted by an odd little creature that looks something like a mix of a rabbit, a cat, and a bit abruptly clambering out of his hood, sinking its claws into the fabric of his robes on his shoulders as it stretches and yawns.

"Oh, now you decide to wake up!"

(a frown, a squint, and also a small protective stance, birds sure would think mugetsu to be a fair snack. he hopes it's well trained.)

Who's your friend?

Finish stretching, the critter glances around, sees that there's, well, literally nothing of interest besides some strange new person... And promptly turns around to start batting at Merlin's long hair.

"One of the sorts of creatures that's appeared in this world." The mage is apparently just going to ignore the creature's antics for now. "As you can see, its appearance seems based on a mixture of animals, some from different worlds from each other. This one simply started following me around."

And then Merlin may have started the process of making it into a familiar within a shared dream not long ago. Not that the effects of a dream carried over into the waking world, of course, but some of the impressions and memories of the experience certainly did.

(that moment there is the moment in which kimihiro rests, but mugetsu definitely doesn't. he hides inside the collar of his master and kimihiro snorts to the snout moving around his back.) ... Mugetsu, that tickles! (and finally, he stops moving, only his head peeking out from inside the collar.)

Seems like you got yourself a guardian, to say the least. (and if it contains any magic within, kimihiro doesn't sense it, unfortunately.)

Cath Palug II is now at least somewhat properly imprinted on Merlin, but the critter is still very much on the shy side. And not remotely magical yet, alas, it was all just a dream, after all.

"More like an annoying tagalong," Merlin remarks. "Though I suppose it'll do for a familiar eventually."

I have experience with annoying tagalongs. Hopefully, he can come to his own.

(and trust him, the list of annoying tagalongs he has had to deal with is ENORMOUS.)

"Well, perhaps if magecraft begins working here..."

Though, to be frank, there's other powers of his he'd like to have back more than that. Not that Merlin intends to say as much.
