['Seriously... people show off so much skin these days.'

Parsee was muttering it to herself as she did what she preferred to do on the beach, which was rifle through trash for spare change. Or anything of use, really. Look, she was a bum and a scavenger and if metal detectors were a thing here, she'd totally have one right now.

She did, however, pause to take in the sight of Ann on the beach, sunning herself. Man, times had changed from when she'd been top-side. There was no way in hell you'd get her to wear that little. She'd be entirely too self conscious about it. Clearing her throat, she raised an eyebrow as it kind of looked like Ann might have fallen asleep.]

You aren't worried about those crazy fish coming out of the water at all? Braver than me!.

[ Oh, Parsee, you sweet summer child. This is a lot, considering some of the other outfits she's got in her wardrobe at home. Fortunately for everyone, this outfit is needed for a beach day, at least in her opinion, and thus, why she's decided to don it on today of all days.

To be fair, though, Ann probably should have thought this through a little more before just taking up residence on a beach full of trash, but, well. Here they are. She's on the cusp of actually, truly dozing off when she hears someone clear their throat, and immediately, the area around her brightens, signifying that yes, she's very much awake again. She starts even, sitting up enough that her sunglasses skew across her face, and she reaches up to push them up onto the top of her head. ]

Oh! Hi, Parsee-san! [ She blinks, rubbing at her eyes with the back of a hand as she props herself up on an elbow properly. ] Mm? Oh, no... they're not that scary. Mostly. I mean, I guess they kinda are... actually, I didn't really think about that, huh.

[Man, there were bikinis out there that would blow the girl's little Meiji era head. She was barely ready for this.

The darkness that shrouded around Ann faded, leaving the daylight there to do its job, and as she sat up to look at Parsee, the youkai returned the favor with a little laugh and a snort.]

I think they'd be scary if they actually were big enough to swallow one of us, but they're not. They're just annoying and slightly dangerous only not really. I mean it's not like we can die around here after all. Can't imagine what would happen if someone got swallowed.

[She shrugged.]

What are you doing out here anyway? Other than obviously enjoying yourself.

[ Good God, what a trip that would be for poor Parsee... and very hilarious, too...

Ann can really only nod to that statement, because yes, she's absolutely right. The small fry fish things aren't too much of a concern, she's learned. They're almost... cute in a homicidal way, really. ]

Yeah! Well, sorta. I mean, they're a little intimidating in numbers, but like, other than that... not really. Do you think there's anything huge out there? [ She gestures with her free hand to the vast, wide open ocean. ] You know, like, shark sized? There could be. Don't think I wanna find out, though...

[ At least, she doesn't want to find out in the form of being eaten, thanks. ]

Oh, nothing, really. I was just trying to simulate a beach trip from home, and uh... then I fell asleep. Nothing spectacular, honestly. What about you? Looking for stuff?

So far, I haven't really seen anything? I'm kind of on the lookout right now for tsukumogami since the whiny little bastards have been showing up lately. [Suuuuch an annoyed grunt.] I think they're appearing here.

The biggest things I've seen so far are one big-ass dragon who was following a guy around, and those flying giraffe things. But give it time. There'll be sharks eventually. Probably about the time this place remembers we actually have to breathe.

Me? Looking for useful parts and the like, and to see if there's any tools around waiting to cause trouble. I knew I shouldn't have been talking them up so much. But better them than Kappa.

Are they? That's probably a good thing to know, I didn't know that other things started hanging out here, too. [ Kinda makes her wish she still had access to Carmen. Or, at least, one of her many, MANY guns. ]

Dragons, huh? [ ...One of Seto's? Probably not. ] Oh! The adorable giraffes! I love those things, they're great! I want one as a pet. [ But apparently they only hang out with Seto... and Akechi. ] ...Suddenly, I don't feel it's so safe to go in the water. We may need a bigger boat.

Oooh, not a bad way to spend time, though! Found anything fun yet? Sometimes I'm surprised at some of the things that wash up here. I'm trying to like, expand my bed area, so I've been looking for a second mattress and bed frame...

Eh. Nothing around here obeys the rules. With our luck, it'll be landsharks swimming through the ground, ya know. But yeah, we've had a couple run ins. The broom at the shrine's been tripping people and making loud noises, so I've been calming the little primadonna down.

[She sighed. It was exasperating, but there really were so many worse creatures that were possible from Gensokyo, so she could tolerate those bozos. They were really more annoying than anything... as long as they were solo.]

Not much today. You in ... what is that outfit anyway? Do people wear those at the beach? I haven't been topside for a century, so...

...why do you need a second mattress? Wouldn't that be a little extreme or sprawling out? Unless... [Her eyebrow climbed a little. Relationship gossip senses starting to tingle.]

Oh my God, that would be the literal worst! Or like, what if they have wings like the giraffes?! Maybe their teeth will be made out of gummy bears... [ ...Please. ] I won't lie... the thought of a broom tripping people is amazing and if I witnessed that I'd probably laugh. You know, assuming no one was hurt.

[ Is she already mentally picturing Akechi falling over a broom? Absolutely. Is she smiling about it? She sure is. ]

Mm? Oh, this is a bikini. Yeah, it's something girls wear to the beach, or to go swimming in any body of water, really. I'm not really sure why, but uh, I was gifted with this earlier, along with a few other articles of clothing from home. Lucky me, I guess!

[ She blinks. ] Sprawling out, for sure. I hate having to be cramped up on that tiny bed, I'd much rather have a huge space to stretch out on. Besides, you never know... maybe we'll get dogs or cats here one day. Then there'd be enough room for a pet! [ She's... oblivious to Parsee's train of thought... ]

[It was Parsee's turn to laugh. Man. For a split second there, she thought yet another person in this place was getting lonely and stir crazy, thinking of shacking up. It was apparently getting more common lately. The comment about dogs and cats, though made her laugh out loud and she reached up to put her hand to her forehead.]

Careful what you wish for there, with my luck you have me around. You might get Nekomata, and those two tailed bastards are a handful. [She sounded amused, though. Honestly, those weren't too bad.] Sure, I can see bed envy. Nice big thing to just claim as your own.

But wow. Well, I've gotta say it's bolder than anyone was wearing back when I was still topside. I'd never be able to wear it myself. Way too much skin showing for my tastes.

[Ok... maybe she'd get talked into it with water wings.]

[ Poor Parsee, she'd laugh if she knew that. Granted, the only people she knows about are Akechi and Ren, and that's because she'd mentally scarred herself by walking in on them... in the act. ]

Nekomata... they sound cute, though! Are they big? [ If they are, maybe she'll need three mattresses... if she can even fit that into the small space the apartments offer. ] They are! I miss my bed at home, it was so fluffy and comfortable... I'd like to try and emulate that here, if I can, you know?

...Really? I think you'd look really cute in a bikini! [ Parsee, she's literally already getting ideas in her head. ] If we ever get a store here that actually offers useful clothing, or like, I can figure out how to make things... you should definitely try one! You might like it!

[ Ah yes, Parsee prancing down the surf in a bikini... with water wings. ]

[Oh good gods, she needed to share that story sometime. Parsee would laugh her ass off so fucking hard... and not be jealous about not being the one to walk in on them. Nope!]

In their feline form, they're not much bigger than house cats. But when they're humanoid, your height? Pranksters, kind of like you might expect from cat spirits.

[She made a face.]

I'm not actually that attractive, and you'd have to get me something that could cover my arms anyway. [She said that with a bit of firmness. Nope, not explaining that one.] I like more clothing than less honestly.

[ Ren isn't even aware that she'd seen them doing the do. The only other soul who knows is Akechi, because he'd caught her gaze and had given her a look before she'd closed the door and RAN. ]

...I don't just want one, I need one. Or two. They sound amazing.

[ She's partial to cats, anyways, thanks to Morgana. ]

I think you're attractive, but they do have swimsuits that cover the arms, too. They're actually pretty cute!

I'll... think about it if you can find me one of those. I don't like my arms uncovered more than anything. But I'm not that attractive. You're a lot prettier than I am, Ann.

I like kitties with claws. I think one would suit me just fine. [ She does dress up like a Panther, after all, for her second part time job. ]

[She snorted and laughed some, shaking her head. Sure, fine. She could see it. If you loved your cats to have claws, you could definitely value a nekomata.]

I'm nothing special at all. I'm not book smart, I've got a shitty temper and an attitude sometimes... and according to my classmates, I stick out like a sore thumb. [She flopped up and onto the crate she'd been leaning against, crossing her legs and leaning forward to grin at Ann. There was a very slightly feral edge to the grin, because it was a thing she understood all too well. She could almost smell it in the air.]

Oh, they tell you that do they? [A snicker.] That reminds me of talks I used to have with Sanae, when she'd come down. I think I know why they'd say something like that, hehe. Jealousy makes people say cruel things.... very cruel things. I bet you the girls never let you stop having it at times.

No, trust me. Whatever you think? You're pretty. Your classmates are afraid you'll steal the attention from them. Take it from someone who practically lives of jealousy. That reeks of envy.

[She took arguably a little too much delight in seeing envy at work, admittedly.]

[ Now it's Ann's turn to turn a little pink in the cheeks, because she's really not used to being complimented like this, at least, not in such a genuine manner. She smiles, almost nervously, and giggles, shaking her head. ]

Yeah, a lot of the girls were pretty nasty, but the boys were, too. Lots of bad rumors, always the last to be picked for team activities... it was like that no matter what country I lived in. Except for America, but I wasn't there long enough to really make friends.

[ And Japan... as beautiful as the country in, she can't wait to get out. She has no idea where she'll go after high school, but she's certainly not hanging around there. ]

Oh wait. Right. She looked at her and slapped her forehead. "Augh, I know what it might be in part. You're blonde. They used to get so weird because I was blonde." She grunted sourly and shook her head. In her day, it was because of the relations to the Ainu, probably. "They don't mind blondes across the ocean. I remember hearing that. Whatever. I like your hair. Wish mine was that lustrous. Light hair's fine. It's different. It stands out."

She blinked. Wait, had she just... uh... well, she'd been complementing her. She'd always done that because it gave her excuses to be jealous, but she guessed maybe that made her smile a little? "Uh, yeah... sure. No problem, I guess? I'm not used to being the one who gets thanked for saying something nice, heh."

[ Ann's eyes widen, because... she hadn't thought about that. Of all people, Parsee would be able to understand her pain because of their matching hair color. Sure, the hue was a little different, but blondes are blondes and clearly, they must stand in solidarity. ]

Really? Even back then, people were still mean about blond hair? That's awful... I'm so sorry you had to deal with that, too. But I like your hair, too! It's really pretty and it suits you!

[ She sure was complimenting Ann, and that's just really weird because she's definitely not used to it in a... nice way. Usually, if she gets compliments it's not in a very kind fashion. ]

I think it's really sweet of you, so, thank you. I mean it, I really appreciate it!

[Definitely, and that whole thing about blondes? It was absolutely centuries old, so she could certainly appreciate the pain there.]

Oh man, I think it started back in my day. They used to freak out about it because of the Ainu. [She shrugged. Those folks lived in Hokkaido. She'd never even met one.] Ngh... there you go complementing me again, heh.

Heh. Don't worry about it. Always happy to find the things that someone's got going for them. [Perfect fodder for herself after all.]

But why? Who cares what people look like, you know? Everyone's unique... if we all looked the same, that'd be super boring.

[ That's what she thinks, at least, even if at one point she'd honestly considered dying her hair black and begging her parents to allow her to wear brown contacts. Shiho had been there at that point, though... and had talked her out of it, fortunately. ]

Ehhhh... part of it's because the isles always had a thing for conformity. Whoever matched the perfect ideal that much better than everyone else was the prize of prizes. So people would try so damned hard to count the layers of clothes they could wear, match the exact colors of the season so that thy were perfectly fitting in better than...
