Maybe you heard through word of mouth, or got an invite from the barista and barkeep directly, or spotted the handwritten paper invites hung up around the area, but there is a gathering happening at the Heavenly Blanc Bar and Café TODAY! So feel free to stop by, hang out, have some drinks, and share some stories.

🍺 DRINKS: Coffee will be served by Ren, and Tifa will be handling the other drinks. There's a wide variety behind the bar, ranging from alcoholic to the non-alcoholic, with delicious cocktails (yes, including virgin ones for the minors) to pick from. And before you ask - no, if you are underage, you may not have alcohol. Tifa will be very strict about it, and anyone who tries to bypass her imposed law will be subject to room temperature tapwater for the rest of the party.

🎲 GAMES: Various boardgames that came along with Le Blanc will be made available for all to play, including a Shogi board for the strategically inclined (and whoever knows how the heck to play it). Along the side wall are two pinball machines, and while they don't light up and make sounds, the mechanisms inside them still work, so they aren't completely out of the picture! Next to them, between the jukebox and the door is a dart board. Please do be mindful when throwing darts, as the light filtering into the bar through the front windows is very minimal.

🤔 INFORMATION EXCHANGE: The important part! When all are gathered inside the bar, Tifa and Ren will make a small announcement for everyone:

"Now that we've all had the chance to take a look around and get our bearings, I wanna encourage everyone to exchange what you know, or what you've found. Even share it with the rest of us! Locations, ideas, theories - anything that could be useful in helping us all figure this out. We all come from different worlds, but we're stuck here, so we're in this together until we're not, yeah? Let's make friends and play nice, and most importantly, have fun today! Oh, and if you're coming and going, make sure to close the door nice and tight behind you."

"It's nice to see everyone. Since we're stuck here together, let's cooperate well."

If anything, I'm only surprised that we've encountered nothing more hostile than general wildlife.

[They're of the same mind regarding that, at least, though Akechi quirks an eyebrow at her word choice.]

I wouldn't have accused you as such. Are you trained in weapons, or perhaps hand-to-hand? Or possessed of powers of your own?

[Considering she is a youkai, after all.]

Oh, you are definitely a little too aware for your own good. [She snorted and gave him a nasty grin.] I've been expecting worse than random tornados for a while yet. I don't know if a 'fight' is this place's goal, but a fight's going to happen.

One of these days, it's going to figure out that you mortals are supposed to be able to die, and then we're going to have real problems.

[Grumble grumble.]

Claws. I'm decent in a fight with a human, and I could handle myself. And... if my powers were working, most folks would destroy themselves. Envy's a bitch. Right now, I can fight well enough to get away from most anything I've seen.

I'm betting you're a little better than that though aren't you?

[He laughs politely in response to her grin, sublimating one of his own behind the mask.] So I've been told.

[A fight is inevitable, and he won't go so far as to say it's unfortunate. Someone or something, some god, demon, higher power, meddling person, whatever, has thrown them into this bizarre situation, and it's not if, but simply a matter of when it's time to fight them and tear them down.]

I'm a rather good shot with a gun, and I've trained with a saber, but when you speak of powers of Envy... that's certainly a force to be reckoned with.

[He draws his hand back to his chin, eyes glittering a little with renewed interest. It's not like envy isn't something he's personally familiar with, or one of the primary driving forces in his life. But the prospect of having a demon of envy in their midst is certainly something he can't ignore.]

Is it something you consciously exert, or is it more like your presence alone inspires those feelings in others?

It's a lot lower tier than you'd think. Effective at making people screw their own lives up, but in combat it's not always that great. I'm pretty base level as youkai go. Just old.

[She snorted. But she would admit, if she had them, she could more than take care of herself in a fight, as long as something could feel envy in the first place.]

A little of one, a little of the other. I kind of have that effect on folks, but I usually have to do it on purpose to really work them over.

On the contrary, it sounds incredibly useful. Perhaps less so one-on-one, but using those powers in a group?

[If Akechi had those kinds of powers, oh, imagine the havoc he could wreck. It's a nice thought.]

Still, that's good to know. I hope I never give you reason to use those powers against me.

[She looked at him funny for a moment. Hmmm. Was this one a little bit cunning? He looked a little bit cunning. After all, yeah, it was obviously useful, but why think in those terms.]

Yeah, it'd deal with crowds ok. Used to do that. They argue very easily if they know each other. Either way doesn't matter for the moment. Unless powers start randomly working again properly it won't matter either.

[He certainly thinks he's cunning!]

Unfortunately, that is true. Thank you for being so forthcoming. Knowing just what resources we have at our disposal could prove to be quite useful in the coming future.

[And then a smile, charming as always.]

If nothing else, it's another way to get to know each other, don't you think?

...Has anyone ever mentioned to you that you have the smile of a politician? I bet you could run for the Diet if you wanted.

They DO still have the Diet in Japan, don't they? Please tell me at least that didn't change. They were only just getting that together when I went below.

[Now Akechi's been called many things: a liar, a fake, a traitor, a bastard. Been told his smile is insincere. But he's never been accused of being a politician, and unbidden, the face of his father drifts across his mind. While he has enough self-control not to outright scowl at the thought, he does allow himself a frown.]

I'm not interested in running for public office, in my country or any other. The Diet certainly does exist, full of pompous, self-congratulatory fools. Tell me, was it corrupt and ineffectual from the very start, a ship plagued with rot that only grew as time passed?

[Ooh, she touched a nerve. That got filed away for future reference somewhere nice and deep in the recesses of her mind. It was easy to focus on his question because it was fun.]

Fat, bloated pigs feeding on a trough and crushing the weak, just like the Shogunate they replaced. All high and mighty, with the world's envious eyes on them, waiting for each to fall.

I did love hearing it when the arrogant ones got their comeuppance. Those stories were always fun to listen in on.

[Akechi laughs. It's different from his pleasant, charming laugh, but something a little darker, a little more genuine.]

Well, perhaps Tocqueville said it best: "The will of the nation is one of those phrases most widely abused by schemers and tyrants of all ages." In my opinion, a politician is just another word for that.

What a shame.

[He doesn't sound disappointed at all.]

Forgive me, but that laughs sounds like it suits you better. Comes easier to the throat.

[She gave him a vicious little smirk. Look, she might not have any plots or plans, but she wasn't a nice person deep down. She didn't make any pretenses there.]

Any time you get them together, humans are naturally greedy, rappacious things. Tokugawa. Meiji. Sakanoue. Names change. Shit still smells like shit. It just comes with the territory.

[His smile doesn't quite go back to what it had been, accepting her compliment for what it is and consciously choosing to swap masks, at least for now.]

Now that, I will take. People like people who look like them, after all, and what's the saying about keeping your friends close?

[It's one of the more honest things he's said since arriving here, but he thinks Parsee will appreciate it.]

Oh there's a story behind that line, hah. But I haven't earned it. I know that much about social interaction still. [She winked at him.] Yeah, that's what they say, and it's usually very true.

[Yeah, she appreciated that sort of frankness quite a bit actually. So he was more than he seemed? Well, good, he was honest about that.]

Well, around here it seems we're mostly supposed to be friends. supposed to be anyway. I'm willing to play along, but I have a hard time trusting that.

[If anything, the corner of his lip only quirks higher at the frank assessment. She's absolutely right, on every count, and he can respect that. Their confidant rank isn't nearly high enough to unlock his backstory! And certainly not in a place as crowded as this.

He leans back and nods, resting a hand on his hip and gesturing to the crowd.]

Unfortunately, I agree. For now, working together toward an as-of-yet-unknown goal seems to be the highest priority, and yet will it always be so...? I have my doubts. It's a situation that will require careful monitoring, for sure.

Call it a hunch. The tigers will show their stripes when this world's table enough that we're not all just surviving the lurches forward all the time. Molding our own little empires or trying to get home.

That's when the tone might change.

As a demon, are you looking forward to it?

[It's a simple question, but one he's honestly very interested in hearing the answer to.]

Yes and no. I do get a sort of perverse kick out of being proven right as often as I get to see it. There's something to being able to predict the shitty outcome before it actually happens.

[Gruuunt]

But I don't actually enjoy the experience. It still usually sucks.
