Many of us are feeling strange without our powers, as I gathered. The spirits and deities feel like their identity has been taken away, and I myself have been struggling with it.

I hope so. We have been through a lot together but I know she is still with me in a way. I never realized how much I was use to her being by my side.

[She said with a sigh. It was strange, Lucy was a part of Haru and never really left. And yet, to be without a figure with her was so odd.

It was only the loud whistling that made her snap out of her thoughts. As she laughed at herself, she looked back at Kimihiro.]

Thank you for the tea, you didn't need to do that. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to talk about that. You yourself are without your powers and it is difficult.

I'm sure that when she comes back proper, she'll be proud of what you've accomplished by yourself.

[As much as Haru wanted to say something about his comment, she didn't know how to respond. Instead, she just smiled before looking at her teacup.

Looking at the steam from the cup, she took in a deep breath to let the aroma set in] You are right, it is refreshing knowing I'm not alone anymore. [Which was still a strange concept to her.]

Anyway, mind if I ask how you are able to require your powers? I never thought I would be able to meet someone who would grant wishes!

Ah, it's a long story. Are you sure you'd like to listen? I'll take quite a chunk of your time.

(and he doesn't even plan to go into the interdimensional craziness that is his existence. he's tried before, telling iwaizumi, only to be met with more confusion.

he sips, finishing the tea and leaving the table so he could smoke from a few feet away.)

[With her time in the Void, she has plenty to spare. With how nice everyone has been here, it was only fair to befriend and listen to a potentional new friend!

As she smiled at him, she took a sip from her tea. It was nice, she thought to herself, to be able to listen to another person...]

Well, when I was about your age, perhaps younger -- (it already starts like that. kimihiro is over a hundred, and yet, he looks twenty at most.) -- I was daily haunted by spirits, ayakashi and the like, because my blood smells good to them. I was terrified, and I didn't know how to stop it, nor did I know the reason why. I'm an orphan, so it wasn't like I had anyone to go to for these things.

(sorry, haru, his story is a bit of a bummer. but either way, he takes another drag and continues, the smoke leaving his lips with each word.)

One day, I found the store, and my feet just pushed me in like I had no control over them. Yuuko-san, the original store owner, offered to grant my wish to rid myself of my abilities if I worked for her part-time and I accepted.

(he pauses, looking over at her to see if she had any questions so far.)

[All Haru would do was stare at him as she listened. From what she gathered, he didn't seem that old. He appeared to be around her age but she could be wrong. Was he much older than he looked?

Throughout the entire speech, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy. She looked down at the teacup before looking back up at him.]

I'm sorry, Kimihiro-san, I didn't know you didn't have any parents nor that you had no control over which spirits came to you. I must have been difficult to handle it all on your own.

[She gave a pause.] And I am assuming she offered you ownership of the store when she wanted to?

[Although, there was a thought that came up. What happened to Yuuko? Did she not want to be store owner anymore?]

It's fine. The shop has a barrier, and even if the deities that live here can smell me, none of them wish me any harm over it. It's been many decades since those times, so you don't have to worry.

(he reassures, after all, it has been quite a while. he's protected now, safe.)

Unfortunately, no. She was like I became shortly after - someone whose time had stopped. Due to a series of events, time started running for her once more and she passed, but not before granting my wish. I bonded myself to stay in the shop as payment to keep my abilities and to aid with the events unraveling parallel to us. I had made the choice to stay in that place and wait for her return, so I'm only a temporary substitute.

(even if he hasn't stepped foot outside for a hundred years. each of those words came with a tone of fondness and nostalgia, even with a hidden sorrow behind them. he misses her.)

My powers continued to grow since then. A long way from seeing spirits and being able to perform divination. I'm still hopeful this place brings my shop, but if it doesn't, I can only hope the shop is where I am, and not otherwise, since I have little say in the matter.

[Decades? That made the girl raise an eyebrow as he wondered just how old he was. Would it be rude to ask what his age was? She didn’t know but she kept her mouth silent as she continued to listen in.

There was a lot to say as she processed what heard. She opened her mouth to say something but instead, she closed it back. The words she wanted to say struggled to come out but she just didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know if it was rude to say what she wanted to say but it needed to be addressed.

Looking at her cup once more, she took a deep breath in. She had to be more confident in herself, she needed to speak up and say something!]

It seems like you must really care for her if you stayed this long for her return. All I can say is I hope she does come back and realize how much effort you put into taking care of her store.

[If she didn’t, she wouldn’t know what she would do.]

(yuuko would be livid, actually. all she wanted was for kimihiro to exist, to have a life, and instead, he traded his for her. not that it has occurred to him in all this time - he truly believes he is fulfilling her wish, granting it.)

It's all I can hope for, too. (he gives a smile, appreciative of the girl in front of him before he sucks in smoke and waves a hand.) Enough of this, though. Is there a wish you'd like me to grant if I am ever able to?

[Haru would love to say if he was in love with Yuuko but alas, she does not have enough guts to say it. Instead, she just smiled softly at him before picking up on what he said.]

A wish I want? [That was a good question. She wanted Lucy back but that was impossible and she couldn't dare ask. There was also how she wished to return home but it was equally impossible.

Even if it might be a serious wish, she still wanted to take it as such. Looking at the ground, she really didn't know what she wanted. However...]

I wish for my friends to be happy here. Does that count as a wish?

You don't need me for that one, Haru-chan.

(there's a small laugh, because of course, she wouldn't pick something for herself. she seemed selfless, and his expectation was on check.)

You can grant it yourself, by taking care of the ones you love.

I know but it seems like I could always do more?

[She said before giving him a small smile.]

They were all so kind to let me into their group when I was down. After everything we went through, I can't ever thank them enough.

People tend to think that, but if we stop to analyze it, it might fall apart. Everything in the universe is give-and-take, Haru-chan. Perhaps you don't have to thank them, you already pay them back in different ways that are enough.

(he smiles. it's the first time he feels like the store owner he once was, helping people. she might not even realize that she has paid him already - listening and with the company.)

When there's an imbalance, someone always gets hurt. It doesn't seem to be the case, so you mustn't worry. (with reassurance, he returns to the table to pour some more tea for himself, as well as her if she so allows.) That's the reason why I wouldn't be particularly inclined to grant your wish - it would be pricey. It's much easier for all involved if you find the determination within yourself.

[Haru found herself dumbstruck on what to say back. It didn’t seem too different from what a certain therapist back home would say but Kimihiro didn’t seem to have any intent on doing harm. Or rather, he didn’t have the power to grant any wishes just yet.

Even so, it seemed he wouldn’t be able to grant anything if the price wasn’t paid back.

For a moment, she really had to think about what to say next. What she said could impact what was to come later]

Yes, you’re right, it would be easier to just find a way to help my friends here. It’s just difficult as I am not used to having friends. It is quite the challenge as I am still learning what they like and how I wish to make them happy. [After all, growing up in a wealthy society doesn’t leave room for much genuine interaction between people]

(... haru-chan sure looks lonely, doesn't she? kimihiro watches her find the words to reply to him, and she eventually does - allowing his own question to be answered.)

They know this, don't they? Your friends. (he gets it. kimihiro himself has very few, and the ones that he once had happen to have passed. now, all he really has is doumeki's great-grandson and the spirits that come visit him.) Also, Haru-chan. Please remember that their happiness isn't your responsibility. You can help, but they have to find it themselves as well.

Yes they do but I'm sure they would say the same thing. [She said before giggling. They were quite the merry band of friends, weren't they? They were still willing to help her out even though she just joined so recently...]

I know but it's just difficult as friendship isn't what I'm used to. Or any relationship where I'm not afraid of them.
