@ takoba beach
So, Yugi wanders the beach to see what has washed up on shore and to check out what is actually trash. Sometimes the trash is just as interesting as the items that actually work. He hasn't found anything he wants to take back to his room yet, but he picks up an object every now and then to take it apart or to put something back together or just to keep his hands busy. For now, it's what looks like it might be a waterlogged and very damaged handheld system, but-- who knows. Maybe it's something else. That's how mangled it is. Probably isn't useful at all.
Except, shoot. That was a bad idea. Apparently removing that one thing caused a minor tower of trash to collapse into itself quite loudly. Oops. Hopefully there's no one around to witness that dumb move.]
no subject
[ Unfortunately, someone did see that move, but that someone - a young woman in a pink dress, grinning - seems sympathetic. ] You okay?
[ A pile of trash falling on you would still be unpleasant, after all. She approaches, tilting her head curiously as she studies the young man on the beach. ]
Find anything good?
no subject
Yeah, all good! I thought it'd be small enough to not be a problem but... [Well, the evidence shows otherwise.]
I wouldn't say it's good necessarily, but if you squint it sort of looks like it might have been a game at some point? Or maybe it belongs in a kitchen. I thought I'd hold it until I figured it out or something better popped up.
[And he shows off the prize in his hand, which looks... well, like whatever it is will never work again.] Are you looking for something?
no subject
[ Who knew a trashy beach could be such a good locale for deep thought? ...But, as she often is, Aerith is distracted by the new face, and she retains the polite smile. ]
I'm Aerith. ...Oh, you know? If you find anything that looks like a decent watering can, that's something I'd be interested in!
no subject
[Hm. He does give it some thought though.]
I know I've seen a plastic jug or two today. I don't think it would be too hard to modify and repurpose one.
no subject
...
Her eyes popped open. She knew that face. Not personally, but she'd seen a lot of Kaiba's memories of him by now. Raising one eyebrow, she looked him over and frowned. The first words out of her mouth came without even a blink.]
You're... shorter than I expected.
no subject
Ah, short comments. He's pretty accepting of those. But, well, if she recognizes him, then his first thought is going to be to apologize for not being able to do the same.]
Ah, sorry... have we met?
no subject
[She got down to a crouch and started looking through the junk as the two of the started to talk, glancing over at him with those weird jade eyes of hers. They seemed to sparkle, just a little, but she wasn't quite looking in his direction, as if she was accustomed to looking away from people when she talked to them. That much, at least, was a little true. She wasn't great about getting close to people after all.]
Name's Parsee. Saw you before. In Kaiba's head. You show up there a lot.
(OOC: Oooh before I proceed, just wanted to check. She's picked up a new ability as a 'pure' spirit [hah] in the setting - Empathy. She can read emotions and some surface thoughts. You mind if we incorporate those, or would you rather not?)
no subject
[Just how many people have seen inside Kaiba's head...?]
Yugi Mutou. You're... actually not the first person to say that.
[Which is about the only reason why Yugi only looks (and feels) a little taken aback instead of completely confused.
Parsee hasn't done anything particularly alarming, so he isn't particularly wary about being around her as she looks through the trash. And if her not quite making eye-contact is a problem, he certainly doesn't show it. Yugi just offers a friendly smile the way he would anyone else and also eyes the junk, taking a few steps around her to pick up what looks to be a water kettle.]
Kaiba's a friend. [Sort of. A really loose one-sided definition of friend.] We've spent a lot of time together. Though now I'm wondering what you saw.
no subject
[She had bet Kaiba that Yugi would absolutely have called him a friend even if Kaiba definitely didn't return the favor because Kaiba was Kaiba, and Kaiba didn't do friendship. Too warm and fuzzy.
She snickered as she rifled through a few things before cocking her head and looking at him. He felt pensive. Well...that was normal.]
A lot of us have been in each other's memories. It's happened a couple times. I ... saw you twice. Once was some big-ass card duel involving kicking his butt when he was so very proud of merging his dragons. He's still up in arms about it.
[What about the other? That would have been the Pharaoh's Penalty Game, involving him holding his heart in his hands. she decided not to mention it unless Yugi specifically asked.]
no subject
It's always a duel...
[He mostly says that to himself, rubbing the back of his neck. It almost sounds a little fond. But now he is in that awkward position of agreeing that it was him when that was only partially the truth; something that is nearly but not quite old hat to him. Yugi feels a little evasive, but he doesn't deny that he was there at least.]
Was it in a coliseum? That would have been Battle City. I get why he would be upset about it. No one wants to lose their own tournament.
[And Other Reasons as well, but he doesn't know how much Parsee might know about those just yet.] ... and the other one?
no subject
I think he's pretty much obsessed with viewing you as his ultimate punching bag. He gets stronger every time he fights you until one day he wins. Or that's how it works in his head anyway. [Gruuuunt] He talks about you a lot.
[She was totally spilling the beans on him there. Calling him out for that whole obsessive semi-respect he seemed to have or this guy. Turning her gaze, she squinted a little, not entirely sure if she should, but whatever...]
You were standing over him, and he had his heart in his hands, in pieces. Whole lot more confident then, too.
I'll admit, I prefer my moral lessons a little less visceral.
no subject
And you're not wrong, that's... actually a pretty good description of our dynamic. [Sort of.] Sort of. He never really got another good chance after that point to get what he wanted. Maybe you can get a break from hearing about me now that I'm here? I'm a lot less interesting in person, and now I'm just as stuck in this place as anyone else.
[A bit of an obvious deflection, coupled with Yugi looking down and toeing some of the nearby junk. Not that he seems to mind. But, uh, that description of a 'memory' catches him off guard, and it shows. 'Moral lesson' certainly points to one particular event, but then...]
No, I wasn't. I mean, I wasn't there. That didn't happen when I was there. [... did it?]
Sorry, I shouldn't have asked. Don't tell me anymore about that one. If I wasn't there, then it should be private.

"C-careful," she manages once she's done coughing. "There are some nasty critters that live 'round here, ya wouldn't want to attract their attention." But judging by the rainbow sword on her hip and the old-fashioned rifle on her back, she seems prepared for such an eventuality.
sorry for the delay!
At least, that's his logic going into this conversation. "Ah, really? I haven't seen anything yet, but thanks for the warning! So far it's just been..." He vaguely gestures at the junk surrounding them. "Are you looking for them or something?" Yugi asks, while clearly eyeing those eye-catching weapons.
Is that a couple of tin cans shuddering to life near the shoreline?
no subject
"Naw. They're just not somethin' ya wanna tangle with if ya don't hafta." She gives the boy -- about her height -- a surveying glance; he doesn't look much like a fighter. Still, appearances can be deceiving, so she won't make any judgements just yet. "Especially if yer unarmed."
She's not too worried about the stubbies; they're slow enough to just run from, and are small enough that they're not usually life-threatening even if you can't get away. In large enough numbers, perhaps... but still, it's the big, fluffy robots she's concerned with. She was able to fight one a while back, in order to take its fur for herself, but when she's sick like this... well, now she's going to do her best to avoid battle too.
no subject
Just as she presumed, the newly awakened duo of stubbies don't seem to be much of a worry - if not because they aren't very threatening, then because they don't seem particularly interested in the two residents at the moment. They just shuffle along the shoreline, unprovoked as of yet.
"I'm Yugi, by the way. It's nice to meet you. If you're not here to find them then... are you looking for something else?"
no subject
"I'm Indigo." As for his other question, she waves a hand at the mountains of trash around them. "You can find good stuff here sometimes. Or raw materials for makin' somethin' else." If he's not a fighter, is he at least familiar with crafting?
no subject
"I've been here for a while looking for things that seem interesting, but if you need a second pair of eyes I can keep a look out," he offers, looking rather excited about the prospect. "Raw materials like iron? I've seen scrap metal around..."
no subject
"Nothin' I'm lookin' for in particular at the moment, but keepin' an eye out for somethin' interestin' is always good. Wheels are always useful, an' furniture an' such washes up here sometimes."
She trudges a little closer toward the water, nudging a fresh cardboard box with her boot. From the picture on the box, this was supposed to be a dresser when it was fully assembled, but for now it would just be a bunch of plywood and screws in a box.

W-whoa! [ That was the sound of a yelp but...a slightly artificial sounding one? ]
That was close...
no subject
But then that leaves the option of the sound coming from something that could be surprised! Yugi pokes around the now settled heap to see who is on the other side.]
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I didn't realize anyone else was here. Are you okay?
no subject
I'm okay! Thank you for your concern. [ They offered a small smile. ]
I was... I was just a little surprised by the pile moving all of a sudden, that's all.
no subject
No, that's fair. Sorry again. I should have been more careful.
[He looks off to the side, scratching his cheek.]
Can't say this is my best first impression, but it's nice to meet you. I hope that, um, accident didn't cover anything you were looking over on that side.
no subject
It is nice to meet you as well! [ A troubled look came across their screen before they remembered to suppress it. ] It didn't cover anything I was looking for, but if that were the case, it would simply be a matter of digging it out. So there was no harm done!
