Maybe you heard through word of mouth, or got an invite from the barista and barkeep directly, or spotted the handwritten paper invites hung up around the area, but there is a gathering happening at the Heavenly Blanc Bar and Café TODAY! So feel free to stop by, hang out, have some drinks, and share some stories.

🍺 DRINKS: Coffee will be served by Ren, and Tifa will be handling the other drinks. There's a wide variety behind the bar, ranging from alcoholic to the non-alcoholic, with delicious cocktails (yes, including virgin ones for the minors) to pick from. And before you ask - no, if you are underage, you may not have alcohol. Tifa will be very strict about it, and anyone who tries to bypass her imposed law will be subject to room temperature tapwater for the rest of the party.

🎲 GAMES: Various boardgames that came along with Le Blanc will be made available for all to play, including a Shogi board for the strategically inclined (and whoever knows how the heck to play it). Along the side wall are two pinball machines, and while they don't light up and make sounds, the mechanisms inside them still work, so they aren't completely out of the picture! Next to them, between the jukebox and the door is a dart board. Please do be mindful when throwing darts, as the light filtering into the bar through the front windows is very minimal.

🤔 INFORMATION EXCHANGE: The important part! When all are gathered inside the bar, Tifa and Ren will make a small announcement for everyone:

"Now that we've all had the chance to take a look around and get our bearings, I wanna encourage everyone to exchange what you know, or what you've found. Even share it with the rest of us! Locations, ideas, theories - anything that could be useful in helping us all figure this out. We all come from different worlds, but we're stuck here, so we're in this together until we're not, yeah? Let's make friends and play nice, and most importantly, have fun today! Oh, and if you're coming and going, make sure to close the door nice and tight behind you."

"It's nice to see everyone. Since we're stuck here together, let's cooperate well."

Mages touch the Fade when they use magic. Mostly. Not for blood magic. But I don't think blood magic could do this. So maybe there's some other magic that can.

[It's a pretty simplistic theory, but this isn't exactly his forte.]

[Damien makes a small, thoughtful noise, at that]

That boy ... [he pauses, looking around the room, trying to spot Izuku Midoriya. when he finds him, he nods to him] -- the one with the green hair? He mentioned something about magic, when we first met. It might be worth seeing if his magic is different from your magic, at some point.

[or, well, Cole's concept of it -- he doesn't really know if he's personally magic]

[He looks that way... ah, him.]

I met him, in the mountains. I didn't know he's a mage, though.

[Or whatever the equivalent may be in other worlds, if there's no Fade. He's not a mage himself, but he's not wrong to imply that there's something magical about him.]

[Maybe he's right, though. Just theorizing may not be enough, but if he can learn about other kinds of magic from other worlds, maybe that will help him determine what he should be looking for.]

I'm not sure he is a mage. [just that he has a familiarity with magic. and that super powers are a thing, where he comes from. maybe magic qualifies as a super power, though -- he's not really sure about that, either, everything Izuku told him a little hard to digest at the time. he was still trying to wrap his head around, well, everything] I'm not sure he's not, either, though.

[he shrugs. he knows there was mention of magic, so it's a thread for Cole to follow, either way]

Magic isn't really a thing, where I'm from. [unfortunately. what he's getting at, though, is he doesn't know how one identifies a mage, so]

[Well, that's not too unusual. Normal people can't tell a mage from a normal person just by looking, unless they're dressed like one.]

[Though magic not being a thing at all...]

There is no magic there at all?

[It makes a kind of sense if there's no Fade, but not all magic is limited to the Fade. But even so... it's hard to imagine a world like that, especially for him.]

[he hums]

Mm, no.

[a pause follows, as he looks Cole up and down, and then he adds:] No elves or dwarves, either. [and if there's a note of question in his voice, there, it's because he's just guessing. Cole's clothes look medival peasant, and the concept of magic, at least as far as he's concerned is one from high fantasy, so it stands to reason that Cole's world might have high fantasy races, too. still, he could be wrong]

[He tilts his head at that added comment. No magic, or elves or dwarves? He looks like he's a human, so...]

Does your world have any people other than humans?

[Like Qunari. He's assuming there's no spirits either, since there's no magic.]

[he's glad to know he apparently called that right. he's not going to rub Cole's nose in it or anything, however, though he does look briefly satisfied, before shaking his head]

No one here but us chickens.

[you think he'd have learned, with the 'first rodeo' commentary and Cole's confusion, that he should probably stay away from figures of speech]

[He really should have learned.]

Is that what you are? You don't look like a chicken.

[Is that what chickens look like where he's from??]

[and Damien lets out a bark of a laugh, at that]

No, I'm human, and humans are all that exist, where I'm from. It's another figure of speech. [he's not laughing at you, Cole, he's -- no, never mind. he's absolutely laughing at you]

[He is free to laugh at the confused spirit, he won't be offended.]

Oh. There is no magic, and only humans live there. How strange.

[And that's coming from him.]

It must be very quiet there.

Not particularly? [he shrugs] There are seven billion of us, and that many people ... [well, they make a lot of noise, they're just as flashy, and all without magic or elves]

[That sounds like it's a very big number, probably.]

But without the Fade or magic, it must be like this place... no whispers or forgotten songs, or any way to hear the noise people make inside themselves.

[Damien raises his eyebrows and lowers them]

I'm not sure I'd want to hear whispers. That seems ... [like what popular culture would have you believe schizophrenia is like, and no thanks, Tom Hanks. rather than say that, however, he just grimaces. that, he thinks, should convey his feelings on the matter well enough]

[While Cole is not an expert at reading expressions, he is accustomed enough to people finding him, and the things he can do and hear, strange or frightening. He can assume it's something along those lines.]

Most people don't, unless they're touched by something that pulls them close enough to hear.

[That probably doesn't help at all with Damien's view of the idea.]

I'm not a person, though.

[and the eyebrows go up again, because if Cole hadn't told him he wasn't human, he never would have guessed. he might have pegged the kid as being on the autism spectrum, maybe, but]

If not human, then ... [then what are you, Cole?]

[He didn't say human, but then he remembers there are only humans where Damien is from. Not that he's exactly human, either... depending on who you ask.]

I'm Cole.

[He's aware enough of the intent of the unspoken question to elaborate further, but really, sometimes he wishes that was enough of an explanation.]

I'm a spirit, but different. Some call me a demon. I would rather it be spirit.

[no, he didn't, but yeah, for Damien, a person would be human. add in the fact that Cole looks human, lacking the hallmark pointed ears Damien thinks an elf should have, and well, there you go]

[either way, he flashes Cole a bit of a frown at that, his name not what he was asking for, and then frowns a little more, the idea of Cole being a demon not thrilling. it smacks of this being Hell, again, even though he's pretty sure he's ruled that one out. either way, let's -- focus on something else. namely:] What's the difference?

Demons hurt people. They take what they want, to become more than they are.

[It's of course much more nuanced than that, but that's the part Cole cares about the most.]

I don't want to hurt. I want to help.

Help, how?

[because that still sounds a little ... 'give me your soul, and i'll do something for you', which lines up with his idea of demon, no matter what Cole says, and that makes him a little uncomfortable. not that he believes in the soul, let alone that he has one, mind. it's more the idea of giving something of himself up that makes him uncomfortable. he does love power, but not at the cost of himself]

[Fortunately Damien doesn't have to worry about that. Not from Cole, at least.]

I listen for what I can fix, or lessen. Hurt, fear, anger, sadness, guilt. At least, that's how I would normally do it. I have to ask if someone is hurting, here. And everyone sees me and remembers, so it's harder to help and then be gone...

[It's a hard spirit life.]

[ ... yeah, he has no idea what to do with that, and so he just frowns at Cole for a long moment, before ultimately shaking his head] Right.

[a beat]

And this is common, where your from? Spirits and demons?

[Welcome to life with Cole.]

As common as humans, or elves, or dwarves. Most stay in the Fade. The world beyond the Veil can be too hard to understand.

[He still has trouble with that sometimes, though fortunately not enough to, you know, lose his mind. Again.]

Our world, you mean? [based on context clues, he's going to guess that there's the Fade and then reality. so, if they're not in the Fade, then ... well, you get the picture] Or, well, your world. Reality.
