[Though ‘robot’ isn’t a term the Exarch is fully familiar with, he has at least learned by now that it refers to automata not unlike that of the Allagans.]

You are quite right... though I feel I ought to point out that I am somewhat more technologically inclined than you might think, if not with the same technology you yourself are accustomed to.

This, I believe, relates to the flow of aether. In certain locations, it seems possible to transmit and receive messages through thought. It seemed somewhat random to begin with, yet I have found the locations share one particular commonality...

[However, he then sighs, and shakes his head.]

Unfortunately, based on my initial observations, their potential is remarkably limited.

Indeed. Though again, I would not claim any particular level of expertise, having once shared the company of those far more capable.

[He gives a small nod to Kaiba’s guesswork, and attempts to search out his suspected culprit. Ah... there it is. He gestures towards it - a crack in the ground, containing a milky-white and shimmering substance.]

I do belive the earthquakes have played a role in this, yes. In each location where I ‘hear voices’, as you say, the one common feature I have found has been these small fissures... yet the position is static, the range is limited, and it is impossible to direct the messages to any one individual. Should someone wish to speak with others this way, they can but hope there are others in the vicinity of another fissure.

Yes, I think I too would prefer their company.

[You’re not exactly pleasant to be around, Kaiba. Just sayin’.

Also I am a dumbass and the fissure is actually in the wall. The Exarch leans forward to adjust the poster partially covering the crack, revealing it in full.
]

Simply put, another would need to be within range of a fissure. They don’t seem to be present where people tend to congregate... thus far, I have located several at the Shrine, one within the Lemon Cello, and a number within the living tunnels.

[He pauses, then deliberately attempts to send a message without saying a word out loud.]

As it works by transferring thoughts, I believe it might be possible to transmit to someone mere ilms away.

[...no response. Curious.]

Ah, so you did not hear that. I would assume not, then, but mayhap there is another factor in play...

[He waits, but regardless of whether Kaiba responds he continues.]

Apologies, I was simply... thinking for a moment. Quite what triggers the transmission is unclear. I understand others have sent their thoughts quite unintentionally, and I have heard them without actively listening for it. However, if I am not mistaken, you have experienced nothing of the sort.

Bluescreen...?

[It is apparently not something the Exarch gets. He tilts his head, but his puzzled expression vanishes quickly as he returns his focus to the task at hand.]

I did, in fact, attempt to send such a message just now. I believe your proximity to the fissure is suitable, so I wonder why it did not work? There is no marked difference between yourself and others here.
