Oh... that. [Delaying a moment to debate feigning prior knowledge or to be upfront with the truth. Man, he hated being the last to know.]
Actually- I have no idea what you're talking about. I thought only robots were capable of that, and unless you've had some recent implants I'm not aware of I didn't think you were in that category. [Looking Exarch over for anything out of place]

You are quite right... though I feel I ought to point out that I am somewhat more technologically inclined than you might think, if not with the same technology you yourself are accustomed to.
This, I believe, relates to the flow of aether. In certain locations, it seems possible to transmit and receive messages through thought. It seemed somewhat random to begin with, yet I have found the locations share one particular commonality...
[However, he then sighs, and shakes his head.]
Unfortunately, based on my initial observations, their potential is remarkably limited.

Another one of your hidden reservoirs of knowledge? [That coupled with city planning was adding to the tapestry of this guy's unique and confusing history] I can say without a doubt that my company has the most advanced technology on the planet- I'm just wondering how the technology you're accustomed to measures up. [That was a subject for another time perhaps, since this communication thing was taking precedence]
I... haven't noticed anything peculiar other than the influx of earthquakes. Do you think there's a connection between them and.... you- hearing voices?
Limited how?
no subject
[He gives a small nod to Kaiba’s guesswork, and attempts to search out his suspected culprit. Ah... there it is. He gestures towards it - a crack in the ground, containing a milky-white and shimmering substance.]
I do belive the earthquakes have played a role in this, yes. In each location where I ‘hear voices’, as you say, the one common feature I have found has been these small fissures... yet the position is static, the range is limited, and it is impossible to direct the messages to any one individual. Should someone wish to speak with others this way, they can but hope there are others in the vicinity of another fissure.

Instead of you, was implied, though in earnest he did find this Exarch guy more tolerable than most][Following the gesture, he scanned the area with his eyes. It wasn't hard to spot something that was glowing, even with all the neon signs around in competition]
Tremendous. [Meaning the opposite] I'm beginning to grasp the limitations you eluded to before. [Unless he had a new tournament or product to announce, it wasn't as if he'd want to broadcast to every person in the vicinity of one of these fissures] Ok, so if the fissure is right there, how come I'm not hearing anything?
no subject
[You’re not exactly pleasant to be around, Kaiba. Just sayin’.
Also I am a dumbass and the fissure is actually in the wall. The Exarch leans forward to adjust the poster partially covering the crack, revealing it in full.]Simply put, another would need to be within range of a fissure. They don’t seem to be present where people tend to congregate... thus far, I have located several at the Shrine, one within the Lemon Cello, and a number within the living tunnels.
[He pauses, then deliberately attempts to send a message without saying a word out loud.]
As it works by transferring thoughts, I believe it might be possible to transmit to someone mere ilms away.

THE FISSURE DOES WHAT IT WANTS. Nothing could be straightforward about the void or how it operated. These fissures were an additional puzzlement, and he wasn't sure whose thoughts might have inspired them.]That could be a good thing, considering the sorts of ideas people around here tend to linger on. [Plus that would limit the amount of times one happened to be woken up by said phenomenon] You've been doing your homework. [Almost sounding impressed]
... [Ok, now this Exarch guy was just standing there doing nothing. It was mildly unnerving for him to suddenly go silent. Kaiba looked over his shoulder to see if there was anyone approaching that might have interrupted the conversation but it didn't seem to be the case]
no subject
Ah, so you did not hear that. I would assume not, then, but mayhap there is another factor in play...
[He waits, but regardless of whether Kaiba responds he continues.]
Apologies, I was simply... thinking for a moment. Quite what triggers the transmission is unclear. I understand others have sent their thoughts quite unintentionally, and I have heard them without actively listening for it. However, if I am not mistaken, you have experienced nothing of the sort.
no subject
So- is that it?
[Or in other words, is that all you know about the subject, getting impatient enough to bring an end to the silence himself]
It was like you had a bluescreen error. [Unsure if the reference would be something Exarch would get] Doesn't sound as efficient as what I'm more familiar with, and no. I haven't. Are you able to send one of these messages? [
That's literally what he just did Kaiba, or attempted to do]no subject
[It is apparently not something the Exarch gets. He tilts his head, but his puzzled expression vanishes quickly as he returns his focus to the task at hand.]
I did, in fact, attempt to send such a message just now. I believe your proximity to the fissure is suitable, so I wonder why it did not work? There is no marked difference between yourself and others here.
no subject
Just now? [Confused by this statement]
Is that why you were just standing there? [Looking back towards the fissure on the wall] Huh. I haven't heard a single thing.
