*Insert Clever Title Here*
Who: Legion and you
What: Exploring, Picking an apartment, performing experiments
Where: Various places
When: August
Content Warnings: None so far, will warn if something comes up in a thread
A)
(Tifa requested their assistance in restoring power to the Heavenly Blanc. This is not their designated function, but they will attempt it.
The first thing they discover is that there is no connected power source, no power lines or generators. A simple generator is not impossible to create, though it takes time to scrounge the necessary components, and is unlikely to work as a long term solution.
Still, they build one. Or at least … they try to.
Because that’s the problem: no matter what they do, how much work they put into constructing it, anything more than the simplest machinery doesn’t work.
At first, they don’t really believe it, assuming something is wrong with the connections, the wiring, the materials. They take things apart and reassemble them and then when that doesn’t work they recreate them entirely.
But eventually it becomes clear: generating electricity simply doesn’t work.
And so, they begin to … experiment.
By the time someone comes to check on them, they’ll have some wires connected from somewhere within the hole in their chest to a light, and seem very confused. They are functional, and yet their own internal power source apparently isn’t able to supply usable electricity.
They aren’t one to actually say it out loud, but their current thought process is something along the lines of: What the fuck?)
B)
(The Merlaut apartments appear to be the popular community choice for housing, and Legion isn’t an exception. Like so many others, they choose a spot on the third floor, with a good view of the lake and forest.
Though their choice of apartment on the third floor is not particularly unique, their choices when it comes to personalization are, at least to a degree. They have no need for a bed, so that’s the first thing to go: they take it down to the lobby and grab a nice comfy loveseat instead.
The next renovation is a bit more time consuming. They are able to, with a bit of convincing, collect some paint from the local wildlife. It would, perhaps, be easier to simply ask them to draw for them, but the images in their memory are very exact, and they do not wish for them to be altered.
Fortunately, they are also very simple.
Copied with exacting perfection are a series of childish drawings of cats and flowers and all sorts of other things, including a crude drawing of themselves. Ren had drawn all over their home in Enso, and just as they preserved them there, they will do so here. These drawings cover the walls on all sides of the little studio apartment, a very odd addition to an otherwise non artistic space. Even the picture already on the wall is removed to make room for showcasing the drawings.
They hope that, wherever she is, Ren is doing well.
Anyway, for the last change they make (aside from cleaning the sink), they add a second plant to the windowsill. It’s a wild thing, taken from the forest, and they’ve planted it in a chipped pot scrounged from the beach. Keeping it here is part of an experiement: they wish to observe whether it changes in time with the greenery below.)
C)
(A ...religious establishment?
The architecture suggests that that is, in fact, what the Lemon Cello church is. But the decorations suggest something entirely different. An eating establishment?
Perhaps, they think, it is a church renovated to be a restaurant. Though that would have likely resulted in the hole in the floor being patched. Perhaps it was left open intentionally? There is a garden growing there.
They go to inspect said garden, admiring the health of the plants. They’re very gentle, careful not to step on or damage anything, and they chatter their pleasure at the well kept greenery. It’s probably weird seeing a machine enjoy nature as much as they are, but they do inherit programs from an agricultural unit, and know the time and effort it takes to care for flora, even if their experience lies in tending fields more than gardens.
They wonder: whose memories did this location come from?
Perhaps, they think, it is a combination of multiple memories. It would explain the mismatched aesthetic.)
D)
Error.
(They stare at the string of gibberish that has been painted on a building wall.
They have been attempting to teach the natives (smeargle?) to write, but it’s not going well: though they have shown the ability to copy words perfectly, they appear to experience difficulty when trying to say something of their own-the words become incoherent gibberish.
They clearly comprehend language, and their artistic creations show capacity for original work-is there something about them that prevents proper writing?
It is … troubling.)

He approaches, carefully as he is unsure whether Legion is friendly, only to find they are staring at... Scribbles?)
... That makes no sense.
no subject
He is not currently a threat, so they turn their attention back to the "writing".)
Though the natives comprehend language, they are incapable of using it.
no subject
Natives?
(Is he referring to the creatures? He had seen them paint before, but not write.)
no subject
We attempted written communication.
(And this is, apparently, where that got them.)
no subject
(Two different things, showing writing and actually alphabetizing the creatures.)
no subject
(It'd be impressive, not confusing, if they started to figure out writing via mimicry.)

D!
Raihan and Duraludon are passing by the area when they see Legion reflecting on the building wall, so he decides to check it out. having run into one of the Smeargle himself, he knows to approach a bit softer than he normally would. ]
Appreciating the art? [ he stays at a reasonable distance, hands in his hoodie pockets as he looks the wall over. ] There's something about Smeargle marks that draws you in... never could quite put my finger on it.
no subject
We do not understand. They are capable of both understanding and creativity, but though they repeat words given to them, they cannot communicate themselves.
(Guess who tried to see if they could teach the "Smeargle" to write?)
no subject
[ even if Duraludon had fingers, he wouldn't expect him to be able to put a pen to paper. the empathic connection they have tends to suffice, both on and off the pitch. ]
Were you trying to get them to write something of their own?
no subject
(They seem to sag a little. Is communication not possible?)
Yes.
no subject
That doesn't mean that you should give up, though! I mean, it sort of looks like a Smeargle, but not one that I've ever seen. It could be mixed with some other creature that I don't know about, like the others around here... If it is, maybe that part of them can figure it out?
[ he gets closer to pat his shoulder reassuringly. cheer up... pls. :( ]
Keep trying, mate. If you want, I can lend a hand!
no subject
Perhaps. It is also possible we could seek to communicate using alternative methods.
(They consider his offer of assistance.)

[Parsee happened across the robot after a while and she had a somewhat concerned expression on her face. Because there was a lot of junk here, and this looked like it couldn't be good for the robot, but ... then again, she wasn't sure if he was hurt or how durable a Geth was.
This was definitely a little weird.]
no subject
Hello ...friend?)
Affirmative.
(They look down at themselves.)
We have connected this lighting fixture (They gesture at it.) to our internal power source.
no subject
Oh... power source. Right. Not steam. Smaller, higher tech. Of course. So that's supposed to light up but the power isn't connecting?
...
[She frowned, scratching her chin. This was starting to match up with something that had been bugging her.]
Should it be doing that normally?
no subject
(They look at themselves, their insides connected to the light. Their headflaps ripple as they consider. Then they look up again.)
A metaphor: we function as though our heart beats, but it does not pump blood.
no subject
[because she wasn't technologically inclined, but that seemed to be what was supposed to happen.]
no subject
(They gesture at the light.)
Your assumption is correct: electricity should flow from us to power this device. It does not.
(And yet, they are fully operational, despite their power source ... not powering anything.)

C!
She gives up her search for now and is about to leave, but on her way to the front doors, she spots a familiar robot, and strides up beside them instead as they're examining the patch of flowers in the ground.]
Pretty, aren't they?
no subject
(Their condition and appearance is ideal. These are not wild plants.
The gardener, they think, is of considerable skill.)
no subject
The memory brings a warm smile to her face, her expression softening significantly, but there's something solemn about it, too. Sad, even. She blinks hard, sighing the feelings away, and lifts herself back up.]
The florist knows what she's doing!
[She's seen Aerith's garden for herself and can attest to that.]
I'm no expert, but did you know that all flowers have a meaning?
no subject
(They are very curious.)
We are aware of the tendency of organics to attribute meaning to different flora.
(Meanings differ depending on species, culture. They do not know enough of Tifa's world or its peoples to know what these plants might mean to her.)
no subject
[And not even Tifa knew that until she came here and found the other girl tending to the patch. She's been to the church before on a fetch quest but hadn't been told that it was one of Aerith's favourite places to be, or that Cloud had fallen through the roof.
She bends down to pluck a single flower from the garden and spins it between her fingers.]
These ones symbolize reunion.
no subject
(They have not previously encountered this individual. Still, they open a file for a female individual named Aerith, fuction: gardener. Inside they list that she is familiar with the individual known as Tifa and that she cares for the garden in the location known as Lemon Cello church.
There is no noticeable pause as they do this, as it takes only a tiny fraction of a second.)
(The flower they observe for several seconds, considering it, and its assigned meeting. Reunion. They hope to reunite with their allies on Enso one day.)
