Who: Kimihiro&You What: Getting to know the Void, just generally being confused. Catch-all post! Where: Around the Void! When: November OOC Content Warnings: Nothing!! Perhaps spoilers?
(earlier today, kimihiro had a dream. a dream the man couldn't understand, a mind-boggling exception among many others he has interpreted over the years, his own or otherwise. it wasn't anything too telling, merely an empty, black void with only a butterfly in view.
it seems to be bearing a message, a mission, but it won't share it. the last thing kimihiro remembers was having a meal, attempting to decipher what it could mean, with the certainty that he would see it again if he was supposed to understand it. after all, everything is inevitable.
perhaps it could be the universe mocking him when he finds himself in yet another void, this time white in nature to his single working eye and rough, sandpaper-like texture to the touch of his bare feet. mugetsu pops out of the back of his black&white changshan, wrapping himself around kimihiro's neck and voicing his worries in concerned squeaks.)
Doesn't seem to be a dream, does it? (mugetsu shakes his tiny head, anxiously, and kimihiro taps below the golden-colored eye. he's blinded again, and the magic pulsating within his veins doesn't find its way into release. well, what can he do but walk towards civilization? the only thing that stops him from stepping over the edge is:)
"I Haven't Slept In Who Knows How Long And Now Our Benevolent Kidnapping God Made Me Hungry"? ... Kidnapping? (nevermind the rest, that part is... he'll learn about it eventually, he assumes.)
[Overhearing a little of that conversation, the brunette scoffed at the whole dream concept]
You're a few weeks too late for that- and if it was a dream, ideally you wouldn't be thinking of me.
[Then after a brief pause and canting his head to one side, a look of amusement on his features]
Though, I couldn't blame you if you did... but I'm not into that sort of thing.
[Look- he knows he's incredible, and modest. Giving the other male a once over with his eyes he noted the unusual garb, the creature wrapped around the neck, and most notably the heterochromatic eyes.]
You're also a little late for Halloween. [Presumably... since he honestly didn't know for certain if that month had passed]
(mugetsu turns first - it's easier for him, after all, and he doesn't have kimihiro's temper. it usually wouldn't show through in a first meeting, but when he hears the sheer arrogance that just oozes from the other male's mouth, he can't keep it in.)
And who exactly are you supposed to be? (it's with a subtle, but aggressive tone and a touch of a sneer in his voice when he turns around to face the other. kimihiro looks... well, traditionally asian, while this idiot looks... listen, he doesn't even know where to begin. has fashion taken a wrong turn and kimihiro didn't get the memo while he was tending the store?)
Is the attitude a part of your asshole costume or are you just like that?
[The snake-like creature seemed more alert than it's owner, animals generally were so it wasn't surprising. It didn't look threatening, and some might have even called it cute.]
Seto Kaiba, president of Kaiba corp. [-Of course, the stranger didn't recognize him. No one he met here ever did. Traditional though the garments were, they were still rarer to see in modern times. Someone needed to get with the program. Kaiba's jacket was meant to be every bit as eye-catching as it in fact was. He wanted to differentiate himself from the crowd and make a powerful statement.]
If that's the best you've got, you're coming into this conversation essentially unarmed. [Critiquing the attempt at a retort. Not that he was really looking for a fight, he was just getting tired of new arrivals immediately assuming this was a dream.]
(obviously he omits the fact that if it weren't for a single television, he wouldn't have heard of anything. doumeki is not exactly chatty, and kimihiro doubts he keeps up with whatever is popular to normal people. but of course, even with a television, the name doesn't ring any bells.
sorry, but to kimihiro, the statement kaiba is making is: i can't dress myself unsupervised... but well. the retort at least let him know that kaiba is aware that he's a douchebag. kimihiro grits his teeth, takes a deep breath and finally gathers the will to ask, even with a tone:)
[He's at least beyond being irritated by that subject. Kaiba has started to accept that for as big as his business is, most people drawn into the void have been living under rocks. It's not that Kaiba corp, and by extension himself- were irrelevant.
Clearly, that wasn't the intention and he would be happy to correct the other if it had only been voiced. As for the rest, Kaiba knows who he is. He's abrasive on a good day, and it goes downhill from that]
[Shooting the guy an incredulous look] I was going to say here, the void, but apparently I should add human interaction to the list. What else would I have meant?
(holy shit, what does he have two ears for? kimihiro is sure he heard it, understood that he meant what as to the name of the place they currently stand on.
... or maybe he just touched a sore point. kimihiro narrows his eyes, clear displeasure shown in this scowl. kimihiro tries to remember - people meet one another when they have to, because that too is inevitable. there has to be a purpose, for good or bad.)
What the hell is this place? (still with tons annoyance in his tone, at kaiba, not at the situation, thank you very much.)
Got me there. [Kaiba huffed, drawing himself up to his full height. Despite the time spent here he was still seeking clarity on that himself.] There are multiple theories being bandied about, but without solid evidence to lead to a conclusion. Believe me, if I knew- I wouldn't still be here. [For someone like him that was used to troubleshooting on the fly, not being able to pin it down was almost a personal affront]
I'm still of the opinion that this is a simulation, it would account for the inconsistencies in the environment. [He wasn't really in the mindset for a Q&A but he better expand on that before the guy could ask] Initially, there wasn't anything here... like .. this. [Motioning to the whiteness all around them] .. but since then a mountain sprung up, forest and various structures. The appear at random, and are always altering.
It can't be real. [Just putting that out there now. He did not share the opinion that anyone was meant to meet. The stranger had the wrong duelist for that.] So what are you supposed to be?
(kimihiro listens attentively, although of course, there isn't much he can say about it. new things sprout of out nothingness, appearing at random... it's not exactly a dimension he has ever visited or heard of from the others... but a simulation? well. judging by the technology around the boy, it makes sense he'd think that way. what is reality but what you perceive of it?)
Due to my circumstances, I doubt that it's one. (his shop can't even be seen by anyone other than costumers and those who actually have business in it. he can't leave. his access to technology is a laptop, a tv and a means of communication with the one person who visits him as of now. he can't leave and can barely be found on a good day. how would anyone reach him for this in the first place?
he's not going to lie, though. there would be a small relief in knowing it is just one and he's still at the shop.)
I'm just a shop owner. (and for now kaiba gets none of the rest, because really, he doesn't want to get annoyed yet again. kaiba already made his suspicions clear with "it's not real" and kimihiro already feels the resistance of accepting the unacceptable. baby steps.
kimihiro simply sighs, patting himself for a lighter or anything that could produce fire so he could inhale some smoke.)
My name is Watanuki. (written like april first, but kaiba would have to care about it to think about it.) How many people are here, Kaiba?
(no honorifics. kimihiro is definitely older than this pain in the ass, and he doesn't want to get comfortable with the other.)
"Kidnapping implies some degree of motive and intent, doesn't it? Yet there's no real pattern to who shows up here, or when, or so on. It's all quite haphazard, really."
Merlin's not entirely ruling out the possibility of there being something besides a more or less force of nature behind it, but he doubts that it's something acting with intelligence or forethought.
There must be a reason, even when we can't perceive it.
(because that's how hitsuzen works. everything is inevitable and there isn't such thing a coincidence. he's never been kidnapped, but he has been in other dimensions and received visits from such.
kimihiro just takes a moment to analyze the man in front of him, and mugetsu does the same. while kimihiro finds no reason to categorize the man as thread, the little fox is anxious... poor thing. kimihiro pats him in an attempt to ease his worries.)
"Certainly, in that things like the laws of nature or the parameters of a spell could be considered reasons. But that doesn't mean there's some agenda behind it, nefarious or otherwise."
If you don't count his slightly outlandish robes and the large, odd-looking staff he carries, there's nothing particularly overtly threatening about Merlin, no. Just a good-looking fellow with a flower motif!
I don't mean an agenda. I mean 'hitsuzen' - just that there is no coincidence in the world, it's all inevitability. Fate does its part, regardless of an agenda.
(two mages walk into a bar--, or not yet. kimihiro did take in consideration the attire and the staff, all very fitting of someone like himself, even if he doesn't fit the same aesthetic.)
[Catch Iwaizumi a few feet away, repeatedly setting a volleyball up in the air, then re-setting it over and over again. Just another day, really. He’s starting to get used to this place, which is a little disheartening in and of itself, but ya gotta cope somehow. When he hears someone - apparently new themselves - quietly lamenting their situation, he responds without glancing over.]
Nope. Not a dream.
[Set, set, set.]
The kidnapping part too. You got it, man - pretty much anyway.
It would be easy to get out of it if it were. (congratulations, iwa, you just met a dreamwalker.
but it doesn't feel like one, he doesn't feel his power intensify as it does in such realm and he doesn't remember entering one to begin with. all he remembers is having dinner, debating about yet another dream that has nothing similar to this blinding whiteness where he stands aside from the infinity of a void.)
Have you been here for long? (kimihiro holds his changsan, lifting it just a tad so that it doesn't drag on the soil when he moves over.)
(... ah! now he realizes iwa and himself have nothing in common at all. he looks a tiny bit apologetic for just speaking like the other would know what he was on about.)
I have an influence in dreams. (he tries to solve it??? maybe??) If it were one, I could probably do something about it, but it doesn't feel like one either way.
[How impressing - not. Who hasn’t heard of lucid dreaming? Of course, it does occur to him that maybe this guy has some sort of crazy power (knowing this place), but he won’t assume it until it’s explained with a bit more depth (God, just let someone here be normal).]
Not only. (kimihiro just laughs politely as he looks around the best he can.) Dreams are interconnected, there is always something for me to do in one, things to retrieve or find and whatnot.
(if iwaizumi wanted normalcy, he chose the wrong stranger to approach. there sure was a time when kimihiro would give his arm and leg for a smidge of the ordinary, but that was what, a hundred years ago? also, come on, he has a fox wrapped around his neck and a golden-colored eye. nothing about kimihiro says 'normal Japanese individual'.)
(mugetsu coos a little, like he was asking kimihiro to get moving. the void and his lack of power was starting to make him anxious, and the poor fox just shakes his head in order to get it out. kimihiro pets his tiny head in order to appease him.) Don't worry. We'll see what this is about first. (and he smiles at the spirit before turning his attention to the other.)
So it seems to be the case. I need to get him something to drink, before he freaks out more.

Lucky you, a certain mage happened to be nearby doing his periodic check for whether anything new or interesting has appeared.
"Though I wonder if that may be giving things too much credit."

(both kimihiro and mugetsu perk up at the voice, like they weren't expecting it. it was a white void, he had a suspicion it would be empty.)

Just long enough to know it sucks.
[Kind of sucks. He’s heard it can suck a lot worse, but it actually hasn’t been that bad so far - not that Iwaizumi is ready to admit that.
[He catches his ball, finally glances over to observe the new(er)comer.]
Definitely not easy to get out of, whatever that’s supposed to mean.

Iwaizumi Hajime. [Since we’re apparently giving full names.] Just Iwaizumi though.
I’m guessing based on all that, you have some sort of weird dream power where you come from, right?
[He looks unamused and, at this point, a bit unfazed.]
From what I understand, you probably don’t here. Or at least not the way you did. Usually seems to be the case.
[He wouldn’t know cause he’s normal.]
