Who: Kimihiro, Mugetsu, hopefully you! What: A few activities to get him started. ❤ Where: Everywhere! Most threads are around Merlaut, though! When: The month of December! Content Warnings: None, just spoilers sometimes.
(as soon as one steps into the apartment complex, their sense of smell is assaulted by the alluring aroma of grilling meat and seasoning, spices and vegetables combined. if they're hungry enough to follow their nose, they will arrive at apartment number 107 - where kimihiro currently stays. it's not home, doesn't feel like it, doesn't look like it, as much as kimihiro tried to make it so.
the decoration is strikingly japanese, tea kettles and cups, sake dishes and traditional-like furniture, all dented and stained from the water and arrival at the beach. still, not home. what makes sort of like home is being in the kitchen and cooking a big meal, so here he is, taking advantage of the storm outside to use his cook top and making a rather amazing-looking sukiyaki. kimihiro takes a sip of his sake before he notices the visitor, a smile typical of a store owner when he finally does.)
[ She's been keeping largely to herself since the nightmare. There's been a lot to process; pain and fear and even some strange degree of self-acceptance. And for someone who isn't much of a cook, keeping to herself means eating the same thing day in and day out... which means that her initial departure from her apartment is quickly interrupted by the delicious, wafting smell of a good meal.
It's the same smell that leads her down to the first floor, to room 107 - her hand lifts to knock on the door only to find it already open, and the young man inside looking up at her with a smile that seems friendly, if somewhat aloof. Only now does Rinoa realize that she's essentially barged into someone else's apartment on a scent alone, and a hint of color comes to her cheeks. ]
O-Oh! I'm sorry, I just... That smells really good.
[ Probably the best thing she's smelled in months, if she's honest. After a while, the repeated meals of sushi and barbecue meat and mushrooms - about all you can eat in the Void when you're incapable of doing much more than boiling water - have become sort of bland. ]
(a hand waves to relieve any anxiety. he doesn't think his cooking is half as good as he hears he is, but he remembers all the time he was requested to cook when he was younger, and even shortly before he arrived in the Void. it means something still, doesn't it?
he can't taste the food he makes, or any at all. his memory locks it away, but she can have some and let him know how it is.)
Would you like some? I made more than I need, I'm used to cooking for a crowd.
(every morning, or at least morning to him considering he hasn't ever had a normal sleeping pattern, kimihiro can be seen sitting outside of the merlaut apartment complex, a cup of green tea in hands and pipe on the other, mugetsu always wrapped around his neck.
looking from a distance, he sure looks either annoyed or upset. sometimes, both. it's difficult to find your place or purpose in a completely new environment when all you've done for the past decades is meet with the same people (or non-people, too) and the ever so fleeting clientele, always coming and going and kimihiro remains hidden unless a wish to be granted reveals the location he's secluded in to the wisher.
there's no wishes for him to grant here, though. perhaps he can be forgiven for looking like he's about to snap one's neck while the smoke leaves his nose. he's not doing that great. of course, when someone approaches, his expression clears to give space to a much neutral, more polite one.
( Now, that's not a good look on anyone. As it so happens, though, Arashi does have a request for him - at least, now she does. The green tea's caught her attention and she's remembering something someone told her - albeit she's certain it was a joke, but she might as well try anyway...
Anyway, she'll be sliding over. Hiiiiiiii. )
Penny for your thoughts? Ooor... ( ...She has no idea if he likes sweets, but she's offering him a prepackaged strawberry jam bread anyway. ) A treat? A handsome boy like you shouldn't be sulking so much, you know! You'll get wrinkles. What a waste that would be!
Ah, Naru-chan. (kimihiro's expression does soften when she comes closer. arashi definitely is a mood improver, because there's a hint of a smile when she offers the bread. she's so full of energy, it's cute.
he was never so great at taking compliments, so he just waves a hand with the tiniest embarrassment when she offers him some.) No, thank you.
You overestimate me. (but really, he is at least a hundred without a single wrinkle - he's not that worried about his appearance. to the first question, he offers one of his own.) How are you adapting, Naru-chan?
[ hmmmm? leo's enough of a busybody to not be able to ignore a troubled face, and curious enough to try and get acquainted with the unfamiliar. kimihiro hits both right now, so it's with absolutely zero hesitation at all (besides the small moment leo takes to observe his form, in the unexpectedly quiet way he does sometimes) that he approaches.
please don't mind the sudden company! or the sudden call-out, as leo goes: ]
Hey, why're you hiding what you feel from a nobody like me? [ mmmm, ] Well, I'm not a nobody, but... I mean, in your world I am! Feel what you feel, don't hide away just 'cause I'm walking by. Otherwise it'll get stuck in ya!
[ what is he SAYING
also he's sitting beside kimihiro now, hello. do tell him to leave or walk away, no one will blame him. ]
(who the fuck is this. why so loud. who let this gremlin ou--
before he can say anything, leo is already sitting next to him, and he can't help but to wonder which screw is loose. there's a beat in there where the smoke gets trapped in his lungs and he coughs, voice a little hoarse when he addresses the other.)
Oi, you're going to get smoke on you. I don't mean to give your lungs a bad time, move a little, if you may. (he says that but who's moving here if not him, so that he can finally clear his throat with the tea and take another drag of the pipe.)
It's called being polite. (like he may not be super polite NOW but like, that is his intention............. the niceness in his tone is there.........)
(the shrine is the one place in all the void that kimihiro feels attracted to, perhaps obviously so. he isn't praying for the hashihime, but he sure looks to be in prayer or at least in deep meditation when the broom starts to slowly walk (?) towards the man.
all of a sudden, it drops to the floor from its steady, upright posture with a bang right next to kimihiro's ear. the man jumps, gives it a rather stern look but eventually, he caves. so here he is, completely normal person, nagging to the broom, but ultimately getting the problem solved as he sweeps.)
I understand you wanted attention, but you know, you could at least let me finish, no? I'm not your owner. How is she getting her clientele if you're frightening people like this? Please, think of others when you plan your pranks.
[ ahsoka is going down the bridge in the direction of the shrine and is quick to observe kimihiro's meditation. she doesn't plan to disturb him, taught from childhood how sacred the act is, but then she catches the broom debacle. from its slow walk to him, from it dropping and snapping him out of meditation, and even the nagging.
she decides to stop staring and actually approach as he sweeps, expression faintly stunned. ]
(ah! he recognizes the voice, but the person it belongs is currently blocked out of his sight. kimihiro fully turns to address her, slowly working with the broom. hopefully he can occupy it like this for a while before it starts craving attention again.)
I didn't. It's a spirit that possesses tools - they're called tsukumogami. (and carefully, almost showing empty hands of peace to the broom, he sets it against the nearest surface.) They like to play pranks, so I'd be careful and use all my belongings if I were you.
I'm probably spoiling the little bastard, honestly. It wants attention constantly. I don't think it's had it in a century or more. Needy little thing.
[She was muttering it as she came into view. The new arrangement o the shrine was still getting to her, but she couldn't very well deface it, not when she didn't know who she'd be pissing off, so she was trying to place nice. She grunted and glared down at the offending tool.]
Behave. I made the water clock obey. I can keep a rowdy broom in line.
(kimihiro can only agree - it makes sense that it pesters her when she was sure to let him know first thing that there was a spirit inhabiting it. still, he doesn't stop sweeping, now he's gonna clean the temple since he's at it.)
The water clock is a tsukumogami as well? (and he doesn't like that he has to ask, usually he could just feel those things. mugetsu could just feel it as well. it's starting to bother.) Maybe if we start a schedule on cleaning, it would feel useful again.
(it's fair to say kimihiro doesn't venture all that much. perhaps it's just the unusual feeling of freedom that he doesn't know what to do with, or even the idea of not being where he thought he was supposed to be - waiting for her to return. perhaps the universe has a different plan, much like it usually does for him.
his powers are still nowhere to be found, but it doesn't stop kimihiro to plan for when, or even if they come. right now, he's carefully painting a large, black symbol on his door - his signature, but also a protection seal as he knows it.)
[ Ann's on her way out, when she catches a glimpse of Kimihiro, painting some sort of symbol on his door. Usually, she'd leave him to it, but she's also genuinely hoping that he's settling in okay. It's been a little while since the last she's seen him, so, she decides that her plans can wait for a little while whilst she goes to check up on him.
She approaches with a friendly smile and lifting her hand in a wave of greeting, clearly pleased to see him. ]
Ah, Takamaki-chan. (there may be some paint on his cheek, some stains on his hands, but even so, the painting looks as good as it possibly can - or at least accurate.)
(alcohol is important. kimihiro is not the strongest or heaviest drinker of his bunch back home - he has lost count of how many times he has poured over ten bottles of good liquor between him, doumeki, mugetsu and other yokai that come see him. he is, however, a heavy drinker to human standards.
so, here's this seveteen year old looking man checking all the bottles at the wall market, now that he understands that the world simply restocks it, he has no reservation in just taking them. it makes sense to him that the price is just their bodies not working as they should, after all.
so, at this point, kimihiro has a large selection in front of him, mugetsu sitting on the nearest surface and picking the ones he finds most adequate.)
(he's gotten used to it. every now and then, when he goes to the market to pick out the booze and bring back food, he stops at the shrine to meditate. it was just that... this was new? kimihiro blinks, looks around... there's nobody. did this all just spawn into creation in a few hours?
what does catch his attention most is the incense burning inside the altar. careful and graceful, kimihiro gently reorganizes the contents inside the stone creature's mouth, keeping a stick to himself as he slowly walks around the temple, allowing the smoke to touch each and every statue and new content. it may be a purification ritual of some sort, even if it can't do much. you feel free to ask.)
[It wasn't entirely unoccupied. There was a woman fussing in front of one of the statues, sweeping around to get any of the leaves and detritus out of the way while she frowned at the tentacle haired woman, her eyes narrowing.
Look, she'd seen this happen in other locations, but the shrine and bridge hadn't been touched. Nobody touched HER shrine, damnit, and this had her putting her hands on her hips, growling at the broom.]
Don't give me lip. Look what they did to this place. This isn't even Shinto imagery and you know it.
[She squinted hard. Was it Greek? Maybe she needed to talk to Melinoe or Merlin about this shit. Someone else's world was getting melded to... oh, it was this guy. She gave a quick bow and planted her hands on her hips.]
(mugetsu and kimihiro are on a quest today. leo perhaps ran his mouth too much, because to kimihiro, the idea of being inside a nightmare is perhaps way too close to home. usually, he'd think twice about just stepping into such a situation powerless, concerned about those who would be hurt if he had. he still remembers what happened when he got hurt as a teen. himawari took his scars, doumeki lost his blood for him.
it pains him a little bit, but both of them are nowhere in sight and he doubts anyone would actually be hurt and upset with him checking it out.
he just goes. the pipe is with him, a mere comfort if he ever needs a seal, even if he logically knows his powers are locked. he's about to step in, so either come with him, or try to stop him, or whatever it is that you wish to do.)
(fine, finally he found his footing. he knows where most things are, where to find most people, but mostly, he still spends a lot of time secluded in his room. his journeys are for supplies and things that can be worth his time, and this time, it's a shamisen.
this one is not like his. his own teaches him songs and the cat refuses to sound for anybody else. he knows around two songs, and there he is, practicing them out of boredom as he sits in the middle of the shrine.)
[This has been a bit of an unusual start to his day, but the sound of music is what draws Venti in from the edge of the void. He follows the sound across the bridge, eventually finding himself in a clearing with an odd shrine and a lone fellow with an instrument—something he might've seen once or twice in Liyue or Inazuma.
... but interrupting a performance would be rude! So he's just going to stand there and listen politely for awhile, wondering what the fuck is going on but also taking the time to appreciate this stranger's musical talents, practise or not. It's only once Kimihiro stops on his own that Venti offers a wave, cradling his lyre in his other hand.]
Hello there! That's quite a fine instrument you have! What do you call it?
(there seemed to be a storm on the horizon, so kimihiro steps out of his normal route to go take a bath - get his changshan washed by something other than his hands.
he's here, in a bathrobe, petting mugetsu who currently sits in a little bucket with warm water. he too deserves a bath! kimihiro is attempting to dry his hair, sighing as the clothes are still mid-cycle.)
let's share a meal
the decoration is strikingly japanese, tea kettles and cups, sake dishes and traditional-like furniture, all dented and stained from the water and arrival at the beach. still, not home. what makes sort of like home is being in the kitchen and cooking a big meal, so here he is, taking advantage of the storm outside to use his cook top and making a rather amazing-looking sukiyaki. kimihiro takes a sip of his sake before he notices the visitor, a smile typical of a store owner when he finally does.)
May I help you?

[Crinkling his nose and motioning to the pipe, the guy was clutching.]
The last thing we need is smoke lingering in the apartments and infusing everything with that persistent odor.
[For someone that prized cleanliness, smoke was offensive. Ok, so maybe he wasn't here to cheer anyone up.]
